Lease turn in question
Hopefully this is the right section... My friend is lease returning his GS in about a month and as luck would have it, he got his car broken in to and his gym bag stolen. The thief only got away with some dirty clothes but his rear passenger side window is busted and the trim panel and the rear seat got scratched up.
The question is, he got the lease return protection, would he be able to get away with not repairing the damage to the door trim, seat scratch, and broken window?

Why would he NOT repair it? Does he not have Comprehensive coverage on his insurance, which covers damage and loss from break-ins? Depending on the specific laws in each state, he might (?) not have been able to get a lease at all without a minimum amount of insurance. His insurance rates probably won't go up, either, if he makes a claim....in most states, insurance companies can't do that on a comprehensive claim.

I would assume the real answer here lies in the fine print of the lease return protection plan paperwork. I am sure it details what's included and what isn't, and I would assume something like vandalism/break-in is not covered. Without some limits in there, he could total it, have it towed in to the dealer and say "it's okay, I have a lease return damage plan"...
This needs to go through his comprehensive insurance.

Would seem that he's not worried about "raising" his deductible for future events but rather paying it at all on this one.

i don't get it. if he already has the lease return protection, and assume the protection can cover the window and the seats, why bother doing the repair now?
i think he can just check with dealership on the return and if it's covered? all the dealership needs to know is there are "damages" to the window and the seats and if that's covered

Don't know what kinda protection would cover a busted window and as others have said, if lessee does not understand terms of contract, simply making a phone call to dealer will erase all doubts as to what is covered.
