most, probably no, but car makers have other reasons for going from 8 to 10, mainly fuel economy i expect, or more linear responsiveness at any speed and rpm.

but seriously, maybe in manual shifting you can get to 100 in 4th, but the car wouldn't be very happy doing it. now if you want to talk about useless, how about the 7 speed manuals that are out there... talk about a rowing machine.
