Hey, depending on where you are that shack could be a very expensive house, and that old FX35 could have been about $10k lol

Is that avg $300 to $500 per yr of residual value enough to go against leasing? Also, what happens after an accident, what would happen to your residual value or any value of your car? Besides, who is to say you can't still buy the car outright if you like it after the lease if the car is problem free and you love it?
If you compare a 10 year old Toyota with lets say the same annual mileage that a lease would allow you to have, you will come out ahead. The repairs with with the number of miles that a lease is going to have is not much of an argument. There will be some maintenance. But there is no liability vs having to pay for a lease for the 10 years.

But then I'd have to be driving a 4,5,6,7,8,9,10 year old Toyota and I would hate every second of it.

Leasing vs buying a Toyota I would still lease. These days cars are made cardboard cheap. After a few years it gets all creaky and rattly, especially the mainstream cars. Why do I want to drive that for 10 yrs? Especially when lease prices are like $200 month for a Toyota and a bit under $400 for like a highlander?

That is a poor decision.

When I first met my wife, it was on a blind date. She showed up in a 12 y.o. Mazda MPV with dents. The date went well. She said, do you want to come up for July 4th, all my cousins will be over and we will be heading into the city to watch the fireworks. I say ok. Drive up there, exit 135 on the Garden State Parkway, looking for the house and it looks to be some small 1,100 sq. ft tiny house built in the 50's. Yep, I see that my future wife comes from a poor family and lives in a shack. Little did I know, those little shacks were $600k at the time hahahahahaha

If you want to drive an old Toyota fine lol. We don't. Who are you to say that's a poor decision? Mind your own business lol

I can't imagine being a car fan like I am, and having the means to drive good cars as I do and being trapped in some old Toyota just because I'd rather see money pile up in a bank account. IMHO that makes somebody a money enthusiast not a car enthusiast.

It's one thing if it would hurt me or my family financially, or if I didn't have the means but I do, do how is enjoying my passion a "poor decision"? If your goal is to be the richest corpse in the graveyard good for you lol.

My monthly is $104.99, but when you add 2 converters and all the bogus fees, it's more like $150. This monthly does include internet, however, which would also be hard to do without...

Spending that money is a poor decision. You should do without watching your hockey and just have other people tell you what's going on with your team.

And by the way I'm kidding lol

So a current lease on a $24k camry is $219 a month with $2k out of pocket. Finance is $412. Mind you these are all before taxes and fees and etc. I could be driving a new car every 3 years for the price of 1 new paid off Camry. Oh and free service and maintenance for 6 yrs plus full warranty. What's not to like?

In the FiOS world, it's channel 590 that I am talking about, wanting that causes us to go into another package, like "Extreme..." ooooooh Extreme!!

It looks too like the "on demand" has all "$" next to episodes....like the service is less than it once was. My 3 y.o. loves Sesame Street, and I believe that's on HBO now??? What is this world coming to, that one has to have HBO to get Sesame Street!

Everybody is different, with different goals and life experiences. If you want new every few years and you hate buy/sell hassles, a lease is for you. If you like minimizing expense, then buy used and drive it for 10 years.

Leasing will be more expensive. Like an earlier comment said, the lessor is not in the business for charity; they expect to make a buck, and probably a lot of bucks at that. You, the lessee, are the person who pays those extra bucks to him. But maybe you don't care about paying extra. It's like living in NYC--you will find life 50% more expensive than living most other places, but a lot of folks like to live in New York anyway.

Me, I bought a 2010 RX450h last October. What a great car, and I paid half of original price. And the car was is absolutely perfect condition. Leather, paint, mechanical... essentially a "new" car. I think I will drive this car a long time, and be very contented doing so.

Terrible idea. Calculate the cost of a lease for let's say 9 years. Add the interest rate, down payment etc. Then compared to owning the Camry. Currently Toyota is offering zero percent on financing. Let's say 12k per year for both the lease camry and the financed Camry. You would probably get abut $5K for the Camry at KBB book value. Leasing is such a horrible idea.

Nope. No cable at all for us. We got rid of it during the recession. We do everything a la carte now. We do have NHL Gamecentre which we have one subscription and we use it at two different homes that we own.
