so I live in Nyc and I'm going to purchase a LS 460. So I went on Craigslist and seen a beautiful 2007 LS 460 L for 12,500.
the owner said there is 200 thousand plus miles on it. He brought the car with 190,000 and it has all highway miles. The owner lives in N.C. and states he drives back and forth to Florida. My question should I take a plane to N.C. And drive it back to NYC.

I'd have a friend or relative go down with me in either your present car or their own vehicle, so if there is a problem with the car and you don't buy it, or if it breaks down on the way back to NYC, you can ride back with them. There is the question of whose license plates you would drive the un-registered LS back home on. Better yet, I wouldn't buy a car at all with 200K miles on it.

Even over and above that, why would you want an LS, of all vehicles, with those obviously-modified huge wheels and rubber-band tires? ON NYC's rough roads (or any potholes you could hit on the way back from NC) that would be a real problem. And some insurance companies won't cover aftermarket wheels/tires....especially if you lie to them on the questionnaire and say you don't have them when you do.

Sorry for maybe sounding so negative, but I honestly don't think a transaction like this makes a whole lot of sense.

 

I also would not buy a luxury car with over 200k on the clock, especially when less than 10% of those miles were put on by the current owner. He's dumping it awfully quick. There's probably something he knows that you don't.

 

I agree with the others. And maybe just me. But those are some ugly wheels and tires.
If you do want to go ahead. I would have the seller agree the drop it off at the local dealer. Spend a couple hundred to have them check it out good so you know what you are getting.

You can do all this over the phone with a credit card, and save a trip.
Only then can you even decide if it is a deal or not and how to pick it up.

 

The LS is a stout vehicle and I've seen several with over 200k miles with no major issues. That said, the current owner is dumping it pretty quick after owning it for 10k-miles-ish which may signify underlying issues with the vehicle (I merely assume this).

I'd say avoid this vehicle completely.... Maintenance is the key to the 2007 model year.... Price seems too high for the miles.

Looks terrible, and likely put through some immature driving/abuse. At the very minimum, the suspension has been taxed and strained thanks to the pimp rims. Be smart and stick with lower-mileage vehicles that have been driven and maintained by older seniors who don't stress the car. Those will be the ones taken care of and most reliable.
