I actually owned the 'worst' Lexus model. The 1st gen. RX made within the first few months of production ('99 model sold in '98)
hmm... i had a '99 rx and no problems. almost sounds like you got some kind of pre-production model.
agree about the sunroof wind buffeting, but it seems most cars/suvs do that these days (due to aerodynamics) unless you open 2+ windows.
Literally, a month after I purchased the RX, when I went back to the dealer, Lexus had already updated the seat heater controls and re-engineered the sunroof, in the middle of the '99 production year!

Nice... But Lexus still has a pretty good reputation for the RX. Move on...
Yea, or I wouldn't have owned 3 RX's, and on to the ES. The point was Lexus has a history of constantly improving their products. Im moving along now.....

2nd gen SC430, just for its abhorrent styling alone. Its also heavy, doesn't handle worth a crap, which would be forgivable but the ride is annoyingly stiff with the stock runflat tires. The back seats are a joke but that's true of a lot of other "4 seat" convertibles. Seriously though it is just one very ugly car, a disgrace to the timeless elegance that was the 1st gen SC coupe.
I'd also have to say the IS250, for its small 2.5 V6. It was maybe 1, 2mpg more efficient than the larger 3.0 V6, but down 100hp. It also has a tendency to get carbon buildup in the valves and pistons, which can cause detionation and rough running. If it gets bad it can lead to full engine replacement.

I'd say they did some of their best overall products from about 2000 to 2005. Before then, the interiors weren't as plush, and, after that, material solidness began to diminish, and the increasing emphasis on sport-orientation started cutting into ride comfort.

Sounds like youve had had lots of good Lexus experience.

I'd say those are annoyances compared to some of the crap people with other luxury cars have to put up with. 1990's Benzes with bio-degradable wiring harnesses(yes the insulation on the wires was designed to be "environmentally friendly" when the car was scrapped, which means rots/fails after 5-10 years), BMW's with horrible twin turbo V8(list of issues is like 4 or 5 pages long), Range Rover's with failing air suspension(costs like over 1k a corner to fix), Mercedes with a similar system, automatic transmissions made of glass in some Acura/Honda SUV's and cars with the V6 engine, etc, etc, etc.
With the exception of the 2.5 V6 in the IS250, I can't think of any other Lexus product that suffers from serious engine or transmission problems.
