People who never floor their car, a pet peeve of mine . . .

This is honestly one of the most ridiculous threads I've read on this forum. In reality no modern engine is going to suffer any noticeable degree of degradation if it's never been floored/past 4k rpms. Manufacturers know good and well there's a ton of people who never redline their cars, especially if they're city dwellers.

WRT Buicks: the 1966 is the last "nail valve" engine dating from 1953 (264, 322, 364, 401, 425) with unique port layout: the intakes are grouped 1-2-1 and the exhausts 2-2. Easy to recognize under the hood: the valve covers are exactly horizontal (don't follow the cylinder bank 45 degree angle).
The 1967-* V8 (400, 430, 455) is its more modern descendant (same 4.75" bore pitch), a conventional design with big bore, short stroke with the intakes grouped 2-2 and the exhausts 1-2-1.
The Super Turbine was the various variable pitch design with switchable high/low stall speed.

Another thing that was relatively easy to recognize on the nailhead engines (besides the valve cover angle) was the fact that most of them had the valve covers painted a distinctive green.
Did you ever get a chance to drive a 60s-vintage Super Turbine 300 transmission? It was an outgrowth of the older, fluid-drive two-speed Dynaflow that was just as smooth but much less efficient. The ST300 was, IMO, one of the smoothest automatic transmissions ever built (I owned one when I was in college)...especially compared to Chrysler's efficient but noisy and firm-shifting Torqueflite. Adding to the ST300's smoothness, on the big Buicks of that vintage, was more than the average number of U-joints along the drive line, soaking up every last bit of vibration in the system.

I guess I would peeve the OP. I rarely floor my cars these days. When you reach a "certain age" you'll understand. Every now and then I'll wind them out not often though.

After getting a speeding ticket few years ago, I've been a paranoid driver constantly looking at my speedometer and cops hiding out.. I was never a floor it kind of driver in the first place though. Now when you add in my mayor's 25mph vision zero plan, my car never gets to roar. I took my new NX Fsport for a drive yesterday and the car wanted to GO, but the speed limit was 50 and then 45... And then 25... Sad.

TBH I floor all of my cars with the italian tuneup mindset. However I know its a myth for my DI cars, since carbon buildup is a way of life for these engines. Port or Multi injectors like say older vehicles or newer vehicles (like D4s or the new i4 in the NXs) they do have some effect, but as long as your using top grade, detergent filled gasoline, your good.
I still dont understand the italian tuneup, I just do it safely for the fun factor of waking up a motor. Real benefit, my butt dyno cant tell.
The other thing I have heard is for sunday driven granny cars, if the second owner or driver is a maniac, its really screws with the motor accessories since your "shocking" the engine and powertrain. Will it really immediately make your motor die; DOUBT IT. Will effectively take some useable lifespan out of the vehicle, most likely. But at that point the car is probs worth little to cry about.
