Would insurance cover this or would it be considered "act of nature" ?

If it is $70k in Canada that would most likely be the RX450h. It is between $50k - $55k USD so that is roughly $66k - $70k Canadian D.

Hmmm.... West Vancouver. That's up in your neck of the woods, Andrew (Gojirra99). Do you live near where this happened?

The glass and sheet metal on many modern vehicles is admittedly somewhat thinner and lighter than in the past (and getting more so all the time). Still, however, if a large bear is hungry or determined enough, even some of the most solidly-built vehicles won't stop it from getting inside if it senses food or something else attractive there.

.........And then the bear walked away without the food itself. (go figure?)

The local police estimate $10,000 worth of damage (Not sure I agree...looks like a lot more than that to me)....but I'm judging by what it would cost to repair a car in the local D.C. area where I live. It might in fact be less in that part of the world.

Configuring a 2016 RX for Ontario (not British Columbia where this but prices will be similar), this is what I get:
  1. Base RX 350 model starts at just under $55,000 (about US$42,000 at today's exchange rate)
  2. Base RX 450h model starts at just under $69,000 (about US$52,500)
  3. RX 350 with Executive Package is $79,000 including taxes (about US$60,000)
So, yes, RX in Canada is expensive.

I spend a lot of time in British Columbia....one of the things I love about Vancouver and the area around it is all the nature. I've seen bears roaming around just off the side of Sea to Sky highway while driving to Whistler. This doesn't surprise me one bit....

Bears are pretty clever at figuring out how to operate the door handle on your car, they just tug it open like they're a person lol.

Well, if it was here in US, I would try to shoo it by throwing rocks at it real hard and if it starts to attack me, I'll shoot it while running around a barrier.

Looks like the bear even ripped the curtain airbag out of the ceiling on the passenger side. Depending on year and mileage, it wouldn't surprise me if this RX is done.

Looks like the bear ripped off the trim around the A-pillar (and probably off the roof header as well) which is what holds the curtain airbag in place.
