Why? labour and parts don't get cheaper the older the car gets.

What's outrageous is what dealers now perform under their maintenance service for the fees charged. I took the NX in for it's maintenance and to check if it needed the ABS actuator recall. The next day, I was setting some LPS and noticed that the ABS and Parking brake OBD codes were set. The dealer never reset those codes because they didn't hook it up as that was not "included" in the maintenance list.

Not that ridiculous from a dealer. My indy shop charged me $400 to replace the front calipers, brake pads, and turn the rotors on my 1993 Toyota truck.

yeah the parts prices are inflated and their labor is like $125 /hr

Thats why I only do the warranty work @ Lexus now.

Free food? Not here in Dallas.
There is a cafe but you got to pay for the sandwich.

there's only bottled water and coffee here.

But I mean at that price, I'd just get new rotors.

pads for 2003 ES300 - $64.95
http://www.parkplacelexusparts.com/p...t=FRONT%20PADS

Even if we consider $125/hr, it is a 3hr job quote.

Dealers never pay the MSRP, they get their parts for a special discounted price. So, you pay 10% for the part, 20% for labor, the balance is their pure profit.

So the pick up and drop off service, loaner car possibilities are not worth having?
Knowing that any Recalls or TSB's that apply would be addressed better than an
independent shop has no bearing? Shiny floors you can get at a Midas..LOL.
Dealers don't get parts any cheaper than any jobber can and the technicians are
very well trained. Let's see how cheap we can get Dental Services shall we?

Yeah, i'll just do the brake job myself, thanks. You can take the car in for recalls and tsbs on their own or for a cheaper job like an overpriced oil change.

Oil changes are no longer overpriced compared to what you can buy @ autozone and do it yourself. Now the dealership buys 55+ gallons or even a tanker and therefore good profits for them but that should not or does not change your position.

Things like cabin filter and engine air filter changes are ridiculously priced.
Easy to change.

Could have done it yourself for around $50 at least for changing the pads. Dealerships often say you need to resurface rotors when you don't, pads may not last as long but you could have bought new pads and rotors and did it yourself for for less then $435. That is why I do as much as my own maintenance as I can and avoid dealerships.
