Exclamation CARFAX (update EPICVIN.COM cheating!)

Don't buy so called "unlimited" package on Carfax, cause it's not unlimited at all. I paid for this package and was able to run only 5 reports by VIN number! You can run multiple reports by license number but I wasn't able to check vehicles using license number. The price for one Carfax report is too high, and I was planning to check more than 20 cars and I thought that unlimited package presupposes that I can get as many reports as I need and not just 5 of them! Do not repeat my mistake if you don't want to waste your money.

Not to mention, Carfax has been proven pretty useless as of late.

Almost any new or used-car dealership today does, unless it's a real hole-in-the wall place. And, yes, I agree.....in most cases, even with a private-party sale, the burden of providing it should be on the seller.

BTW, Welcome to CL, CraigJerry.

Bingo. I always figured if the seller didn't provide it, it was for a reason, and not a good one.

Carfax's dirtier than ever. Just recently I was looking for a RAM for my old man and the two reports that I've purchased came out totally different. Carfax came out clean, but the other (can't remember which was it, i just googled the vin) reported an accident and photos of a terrible state the car used to be in.

So I'm going to close this thread because we are being manipulated by some competitor or an advertising or marketing influence firm.

The two new one-post members in this (the OP and the guy who just replied) have obscured offshore IP addresses and similar posting patterns. Note the similarities in name formats (capitalization etc) , never posted anything about Lexus vehicles and went straight for the carfax badmouthing. My guess is they've been hired by some carfax competitor or someone who has an issue with them to increase negative comments about carfax across the internet while peddling another service. All while pretending to be an unbiased consumer sharing their info.

EDIT, guess I'm right... Some others I just googled up with exactly the same story...

http://www.northamericanmotoring.com...-cheating.html
http://ls1tech.com/forums/introducti...fax-cheat.html
http://www.s2000.com/forums/off-topi...fax-cheat.html
http://www.myg37.com/forums/other-ca...fax-cheat.html

Not saying that there aren't shortcomings in carfax's offerings. I just don't like our forum being used to manipulate folks.

From the other links, it appears EPICVIN.COM is paying for this and being dishonest with their advertising practices, not to mention violating our terms of service.

A lot of these are Internet Brands sites... let me make them aware of your scam. EDIT EDIT - all the links above have been removed from other IB sites.
