Odyssey is already on the same platform as MDX, MDX is generally lighter due to the fact that it's nearly 10 inches shorter in overall length and a bit narrower. I don't think you'd see any gains in fuel economy vs either Ody or MDX unless they decide to update for the 9 speed auto.
The Odyssey is not on the same platform as the MDX. The MDX is using a chassis that is only unique to the MDX right now and will feature in the next gen Odyssey/Pilot. The MDX saw a huge weight reduction (500lbs) and improvement in MPG when it ditched the previous chassis in favor for this new one. Now imagine the Odyssey with a 400lbs diet. That's what the Acura minivan could be in FWD form.
AWD Acura Minivan could pull sales away from the MDX.

this is like saying NX could be no net gain for lexus which we all know isn't going to happen.

Sorry you're correct, MDX is on the new platform. I forgot the Odyssey is old now. I don't know about a 500 pound reduction, wasn't some of that due to the dropping of standard AWD? I think overall frame and materials were a drop in the ~275 pound range (still significant).

I know that won't happen for the NX, but I don't think an Acura minivan/MDX combo would have the same kind of pull that the NX/RX combo will. Acura sales will likely go up, but as other's have commented, it won't be some gigantic boost for the brand to the level of the NX for Lexus.
In the original shot, you can see the parrot-beak grille outlined even under the camouflage. It's Acura trim all right, unless it's a deliberate attempt by the disguisers to use a fake parrot-beak and fool the spy-shooters.

Oops, forgot the previous MDX never came with FWD. 275-350lbs sounds more reasonable.
Sounds like a good idea. The third row seats in the MDX were useless anyway. From the photos, you'll notice the vehicle sitting pretty low. I'd assume they'll call this a "Tourer" or "Shooting Brake" because it's in the luxury segment. Luxury segment cars don't use "minivan" or "station wagon" in their affluent vernacular.

Highly unlikely, Acura has said the beak is here to stay.
I'm not feeling an Acura van. They need to get their core lineup brought up to luxury standards before expanding with new models.
No they don't. Acura is not a luxury brand.

Agree, this is a minivan we're talking about. not going to be a big seller for any brand in upscale trim, but the margins can be decent.

My money is on this. In an era when many companies have totally dropped their minivans, I just don't see lux branded minivans suddenly all the rage.
