Default 2016 Chevy Malibu (Page 4)

The next-generation Chevrolet Malibu is shaping up to be one stylish sedan.

The 2016-2017 Malibu has been spied testing sporting some major style changes. The familiar split-grille can be found up front and while the camouflage is designed to conceal the shape of the vehicle, it appears the hood will slope downward more aggressively than the current model.

The bigger surprise is the Audi A7-like styling as we look towards the rear of the next-generation Malibu. A sleek roofline that leads to a small trunk lid hints that the Malibu’s new styling will be more revolutionary than evolutionary. Similar to how Ford has given the Fusion a more European-inspired design, it is likely that one of Chevrolet’s best-selling cars will get a similar treatment.

The new Chevrolet Malibu will continue to be built on the automaker’s Epsilon 2 platform and the 2.5-liter will stay as the base engine. Expect an updated, more powerful 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine as a range-topper while a new 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder powerplant will slot in between. An eight-speed automatic transmission will be available at launch with a nine-speed transmission to follow.

It's been a failure so no surprise, they moved up the replacement for it. Hopefully, it will be improved like the Impala. The previous model was much better.

I believe the current Malibu has been on sale since 2012. So if the new one comes out in 2016 or 2017 that would be about the normal 4-5 year life cycle no?

Interesting how they didn't mention the Sonata or the 200, which both have the sloping back thing going on already in the family sedan segment.

How the hell can they tell it is Audi-inspired with all the camouflage?

It's too soon for a new Malibu. I can see another facelift (already had an premature emergency one), but four years is throwing tooling money down the drain.

They're talking about the slope of the roof.

I immediately saw some A7 influence when I saw the picture (before even reading the text) with that roof sloping over the back half of the car.

I guess this is the comparison they are trying to make.

Slopey styling was so 2010.

Even Hyundai is dropping their swoopey theme

lol, that's the article and thread title - typically not written by an articles author (at least in newspapers/magazines). the actual article says "... audi a7-like styling ... toward the rear".

The rear slope could be part of the disguise. Many of today's disguises also add a fake shape to the body.

To the above poster, Hyundai is (sadly) sticking with the sloping top and no trunk look. See the brand new Sonata and Genesis sedan.
