Exclude the F-series truck range as they're not "cars"

2004 Taurus ,LOL

2004 Falcon (Oz better than American junk)

And let's not even mention the interiors!

Of course I'm correct. There are a hell of lot more older Toyotas or Homdas still going stong compared to America vehicles.

It is generally well known that a Toyota or Honda will outlast a GM, Ford or Chrysler.

10 years old sure but, 5.4L V8, 4WD, 46,XXX miles, Crew Cab, Lariat, running boards, rear sensors, moonroof, leather, seat memory.. all desirable things.. big potential gross profit . The truck will probably sell for $18-20K. I imagine they skewered the previous owner so there's probably close to $3-5K to play with. This is assuming they didn't have to put too much back into the wear and tear items.

Funny you mention this. Reminds me of this VW commercial which I find hard to believe their claim vs Toyota or Honda

One more thing to take into consideration... how large is the sampling of respondents? I believe Maritz does the surveys for JD Power. We just received one in the mail for our 2013 G37 Vert (purchased new in December). We are happy with the car. We had a '10 G37 Vert and had no issues, other than the typical rattles.

Number 1, the survery was on paper. Who really fills those out anymore? Can't they at least put it online? Number 2, it was many, many pages. "Ain't nobody got time for that". It went right into the trash can. So, satisfied owners like me do not find it necessary to fill out the surveys. Probably only the owners with issues are taking the time because they want to vent.

many are not interested in buying 10 year old cars so past data isn't relevant. but we all acknowledge that toyota and honda have a hugely deserved reputation for making vehicles that last and last.

but i do believe that gap is negligible today, and for me, i get bored of a vehicle long before it's worn out so it doesn't matter a whole lot what brand i get.

Today, there is much less difference between "reliable"and "unreliable" cars than in the past. In the 1980's for example, there was a tremendous difference between the better Japanese vehicles and the typical American-designs like the GM and Chrysler front-drives, which were almost all junk. That is simply no longer the case today. Even so-called "unreliable" brands like Land Rover, Jaguar, and Fiat are quite a bit more reliable today.....and much closer to Toyota and Hondas.

You've held on to your Explorer a while now, haven't you? .

Yeah their marketing is rubbish. But the products are actually very good, and unlike before now they're priced very competitively..

I don't know about USA, but in Europe and Australia the Sony Xperia Z series are very popular

How do we know that the gap is negligible today? Since American vehicles of just a decade ago were rubbish, as has been proven above.

We will just have to wait and see how this car will hold up at its 10th birth year;

Ding ding ding, great point about the statistical bias from these surveys. They are generally skewed older due to the length and paper nature.

Sony was awful selling a lot of other things, mobile phones are not part of their problems... they are growing there between 30% and 50% YoY.

Sony's problem were old product and legacy costs that they did not want to get rid of in time, so they have to now, which hurts their bottom line.

But Toyota is not Sony and Sony was never anything like Toyota.

Unlike Sony, Toyota builds competitive product, using their own technologies, their own suppliers, that copy-cats like "Samsung" (of old) cant match. Hyundai is more like LG than Samsung.

So despite Won and low building costs in Korea, Toyota made 3x more operating profits than Hyundai last year, and their sales and profits are growing while Hyundai is stagnating, or actually going down like in the USA.

So while auto industry experts were talking about Hyundai, especially 6-10 years ago, now that Hyundai has reached its peak and started stagnating, focus in on pretty much everyone else.

Hyundai does not invest enough R&D to develop new technologies, their R&D budget is lower than Honda's even. Hyundai's problem in 10 years from now will become competition from Chinese manufacturers in low cost markets.

Samsung's phone volume is almost 50% ODM - which means created/designed/manufactured by Chinese/Taiwanese partners. Such is the nature of electronics market right now - and that has apsolutely nothing to do with Automotive landscape.

So until Toyota, Hyundai and BMW are made in the same Chinese factory, with same engines and suspensions but different design and logo, then you cant compare electronics industry with automotive industry.

that graph is mind boggling. i honestly had no idea. i knew samsung was doing great, and every dudes and gals i know have galaxy, but i didn't know they are turning into a friggin monopoly. and i honestly never heard of z2. every damn night, i see samsung commercials. i don't think i've seen sony commercials. when my friends shop for phones, they don't even consider other brands. it's either stay with apple or jump ship to samsung. that's just people around me. but graphs tell me it's happening everywhere.

i'm sure everything on this earth is made in china. everything i own is made in china. hell all my jordans are made in china. my Polish china is made in china. chinese will take over the world, man. i've seen the light.

For whatever reason, Sony refuses to play the subsidy game that's important in the US so they can't get their phones in the hands of consumers. If I can get a top of the line Samsung, HTC, LG, or Apple phone for $200ish, why would I pay $650 for a Sony phone if my wireless bill will remain the same price? If they fix that, I think they could get some traction in the US
