I do have to say the front grill is quite unique. This model is actually growing on me.

Default Maserati CEO Talks Alfieri Sports Car, Plug-in Hybrid Ghibli

The new Ghibli and Quattroporte are the cars that have helped Maserati triple its sales in the first 9 months of the year, to 26,428 units, and the Levante SUV will increase its weapons in the race to a 2018 target of 75,000 sales.

It is low-volume products like the Alfieri, which was introduced last March at the Geneva Motor Show as a concept, though that act like halo cars for the brand and its image. Named after the one of the five Maserati brothers who founded the automaker (the other four being Bindo, Carlo, Ettore and Ernesto), the Alfieri will make it almost unchanged into production, company CEO Harald Wester told CAR magazine.

Styled by Lorenzo Ramacciotti, it is intended as a rival to the Jaguar F-Type, Mercedes-Benz GT and, of course, the perennial Porsche 911. The 2+2 rear-wheel drive coupe will be launched in 2016, with a soft-top convertible coming one year later.

“The future of Maserati has already began with the Ghibli and the Quattroporte”, Wester said. “Everything else that is in the pipeline between now and 2008 will tap this DNA”.

The Alfieri is based on a shortened version of the Quattrroporte/Ghibli platform and the base version will be powered by a turbocharged V8 with at least 400hp. The big news, however, is that Maserati is engineering a plug-in hybrid system for its models.

“Maserati is also preparing an auxiliary 48V electrical system and, eventually, a plug-in application”, Wester revealed. “While the 48V approach provides a kick-in-the-butt E-boost as well as enough E-power to feed the AC and the active suspension, the Ghibli PHEV must meet a tough 70g/km CO2 target.”

The Maserati GranTurismo succeeds in combining unrivalled class and elegance with uncompromising sports performance like no other four-seater car. The external lines exude dynamic tension and sporting prowess from every vantage point: starting from the large oval mouth that surrounds the radiator grille, the bodywork seems to hug the car’s mechanical structure all the way to the rear, like a tight dress over curvaceous hips.

Im onto this model guys....looks mean at the front!

PS.

The guys below have a nice campaign going on:

Welcome. GranTurismo is a beautiful car but is on it's way out.

That link btw way is neat but it's only for European residents. No USA selection unless someone wants to let me use their address and I'll let you drive my AM Vantage

The Maserati Alfieri announced as "2014 Concept Car of the Year"

Last night, the Maserati Alfieri Concept was announced as ‘2014 Concept Car of the Year’ at the prestigious Car Design Night in Geneva, organised by Car Design News and attended by the industry’s leading automotive designers.

The Alfieri Concept was first unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 2014; a striking 2+2 concept car celebrating the brand’s centenary, with the name Alfieri commemorating the most prominent of the founding Maserati brothers. The concept car was designed at the Centro Stile in Turin, masterminded by Head of the Centro Stile Lorenzo Ramaciotti and led by Marco Tencone, who proudly accepted the Car Designs of the Year award on Maserati’s behalf.
Due to the overwhelmingly positive reaction when it was first shown, the Maserati Alfieri is now confirmed for production in 2017 followed by a cabriolet version later on.

The Car Designs of the Year Awards are completely independent in that the judging panel is made up of a truly global cross-section of professional designers from carmakers, educational establishments and suppliers from major players including Daimler, Jaguar, Volvo, General Motors, Hyundai, Lear, Coventry University and Renault Group.

Owen Ready, Editor Car Design News said, “The design of sports cars with fine volumes and beautiful proportions is something Italian car design has long excelled at, but the Alfieri’s more contemporary design elements have been executed with impeccable judgement. The result is a classic Italian sports car which is utterly modern.”

Default Maserati Alfieri Delayed Until Early Next Decade

Maserati has pushed back the launch of the Alfieri sports car once again to early next decade in a shake up of the firm's future range.

According to Autocar, the next-generation GranTurismo and GranCabrio will now arrive 2018-2019 before the Alfieri in 2020-2021. This comes despite the fact that Maserati originally intended on launching the Alfieri in 2016.

While speaking with the publication, general manager of Maserati Europe, Giulio Pastore confirmed the news, “The Granturismo and Grancabrio will not be dropped. We won’t forget that Maserati is very well known in its history for beautiful 2+2 GT cars and we will replace them, then the Alfieri.”

No explanation has been given for why Maserati will now launch new GranTurismo and GranCabrio models before the Alfieri's arrival but Pastore's comments suggest the marque is in no rush to launch a dedicated two-door sports car, saying its final design may not be signed off until 2018.

Despite the model's delayed launch, Pastore said the Alfieri has already proved important for the brand, with its design, particularly front grille, influencing the designs of both the Ghibli and Levante.
