my friend bought a brand new loaded Infiniti FX45 a few years ago. he drove it like a baby and always did the dealer recommended services. the transmission blew just after the warranty expired and the car was no longer driveable. he needed to replace the transmission - it could not be easily repaired. i think it cost him $4K+. anecdotal evidence but it's enough for me to look at Infiniti with a very skeptical eye.

I was a tech for several years, I loved it when a regular person came in with blown engine or trans, and the 1st thing they say is I baby it and do all the regular maintenance

apples and oranges. he's not a stranger to me who's lying to his service department about neglect and abuse. he's a close friend of 20+ years and i know he's very **** about taking care of his things - almost to a fault. in fact i would tell him to ignore the dealer's expensive excessive service packages and simply follow what the user manual recommended. he would always refuse.

it's one data point of many. take it for what it's worth.

I forgot to respond to the OP's question.

I don't have numbers separated out by model, but Nissan sales were up 9.4% for 2013 over 2012, while Toyota's were up 7.4% for the same period. So Infinti's sales could be down, but that would be against Nissan's trend. If sales are down, some of the possible decline could be attributed to buyers holding off knowing the new Q line was being introduced.
