Default High idle when cold

I have a 2013 GS 350 that I recently purchased. It's been well below 40 degrees where I live and my car has been idling close to 2000 rpms.. It seems to take close to 10 minutes to consistenly stay at or below 1000 rpms. It seems like like a very long time to warm up. I've never had any other car do this. Does anyone know if that is normal for this car?

is this 10 minutes just sitting at idle? or driving around for 10 minutes? Idle will be higher when engine is cold and will not settle down until the optimum temperature is reached.

It should be normal. All my cars do this if it's really cold outside.

turn off heating and check again... it should be normal, it is heating up engine to warm up the cabin faster as well as for emissions reasons (cat needs to be very high temp to work properly).

Welcome to CL as a new poster.

Has the coolant-thermostat been checked? It should stay closed until the programmed temperature...usually around 195 degrees. If it is opening prematurely (or the electric engine-fans turning on too early), the warm-up will either be delayed or not happen at all. Also, the comments about keeping the cabin-heater setting down ae correct. The more you keep the interior heater-core warm during warm-up, the longer it will take the engine to get fully warm...that's because the interior heater-core takes heat (and hot coolant) out of the engine.
