I just reviewed a new Avalon. Same thing....the glove box lid peels like a piece of cardboard.....and the Flimso-Matic latch can barely keep it closed. The seat-heater twist-***** on the console are even worse.

(I'll have the entire review ready to post probably tomorrow)

And yes the "Patented Lexus door thud" is gone. Only the LS and LX currently retain it. Everything else sounds weaker AND they do not shut properly anymore. You have to shut them harder than past.
Actually, Hoovey, to be fair, the doors on both the new ES and Avalon DO shut properly and precisely, considering what they are actually made out of. They just use thin, lightweight materials, that's all. But, of course, even those lightweight doors have to (and, I would assume, DO) meet Federal side-impact standards for protecting passengers.

I know my dad paid something like $70K OTD for a new '07 LS460 back in 2007 and the 600hLs were going for around $120k IIRC.

But yeah I agree the 600hL makes no sense at all. There are hordes of other cars that I'd rather get for $120k than the LS600hL.
I was a little brief on my direction. A loaded 460L VS 600HL. The most I've seen a 600hl sell for was 138k. That car had every option including Blue Harbor paint and chrome Neiman Marcus wheels. I must say it was a real nice car but still hard for me to swallow that car for that price. I would like to drive/ride in a 2013 600hl because so many things have been updated. Over 3000 new part numbers and chassis improvement. The new headlights and interior do set it off IMO.

Lexus has always made great cars. That's not the problem or the reason for my initial statement. My direction was for them to make the best all round sport packaged cars.
Sure other brands may have .3 faster 0-60 times. Maybe a couple technology options that Lexus doesn't offer. The main point is COMPETITIVE performance with all the other great things you get as a Lexus owner. They have no reason to be 5 years behind. LOL I guess if the blind spot monitor option takes 2 years to catch up a engine evaluation may take 8.
