If it was that convincing you'd buy one and your "friends" and not just test drive it no? Again the last model had steep discounts the majority of its life and never met sales targets. It's a nice niche car but there has never been a huge exodus of luxury brand owners to the Genesis no matter what the 3-4 internet Hyundai/Kia fans going on all the forums posting say.

Let's not confuse what's impressive for Hyundia as impressive for the class.

I personally like how simple and straight-forward the interior is. I think that shifter could use a nicer ****, but I do like it overall. It's a little more "no thrills" than the GS or 5 Series, but I personally don't mind that. This appeals to me more than the A6, which I find a little too busy.

I've never been one to buy into badge prestige unless it truly translates into some measurable advantage. It's too bad that the market Hyundai is trying to play in here thinks "badge first" because it really is a compelling car. I'm still amazed that the company that started here with the joke-worthy Excel is now operating at this level. Lambast them all you want but there are some other big car companies who aren't even trying to get there.

They have their work cut out for them in a field of brilliant competitors but somehow I think they'll do alright with this generation.

but that's not what you said.

you are mistaking this to a regular cheapo hyundais 20 years ago. back then hyundai/kia built their business around

1. people with bad credit
2. minorities
3. people with low income

but it's 2014, not 1994. most hyundais aren't that much cheaper than the others. some actually cost more. and now hyundai has 2 sedans cost over $40k+. those 3 above aren't hyundai's target market anymore especially with their luxury offerings.

i'm not even talking about sales figure. luxury model from a mainstream will almost always flop. that's not a news. but this notion that 'i buy genesis because i can't afford luxury' is laughable.

even with steep discounts, with that money you can still get - infiniti, acura, stripper 3 series, c class, etc, etc. and they could've easily just bought a slightly used 5/e/a6.

so if they really wanted a badge, they could've gotten a badge. but obviously they chose not to.
i would rather drive a used 528i over genesis. but obviously they thought genesis made more sense for them.

i would take this over last gen genesis.

but this new genesis? hm.. i would have to strongly think about it. most likely i'll be my shallow self and get a 528i, but maybe decision won't come so easily this time around. and it is much more convincing package to me than the last gen. i was pretty much 'meh' on the last gen. good 1st effort, but not good enough because i found it way too generic. and i hated the interior. too 'round' for me. and didn't care for silver plastic.

this new one is pretty vanilla too, but i find it very good looking. and by the reviews, the ride has definitely gotten better too. i did like the ride of last gen genesis. it's a good highway cruiser.

my biggest beef with the new genesis is teh design. i wish hyundai was more daring, but i understand their business decision to be conservative again. solid B grade from me. i wish they nailed and get an A - and to do that they would have to be forward thinkers. they really aren't yet.

overall not enough to convince me to abandon my 335i, but still very tempting package. i'm just not in the market for a bigger sedan.

Consumer Reports gave the last-gen Genesis good ratings. With the first run of this next-gen, they'll need to work out the kinks first.

Disconnect?

It looks fine. It's signature of Hyundai design.

Bentley Wings in the front, squished H in the back?

reminds me as a teen when I did stupid things like putting a Mercedes logo on the hood, while keeping the Suzuki on the rear trunk.
Or maybe I as just too far ahead of the times?

They've been using that symbol on the last gen and have been suing in S Korea for sometime.

So is your issue with the badging or the styling?

The Genesis symbol is, just like its overall design, an unimaginative copy of other badges and products.

Bentley, Aston Martin, Chrysler, and even MINI have "winged" badging.
