who has a hi-mileage Lexus?
Hello, the new guy here again. My second thread
I was curious about any Hi-miled Lexi out there. Who has one and how has your Lexus treated you? I have a little tale of my own..
In 1995 my mother put to rest her 87' Volvo 760 w/198k for a low mileage 93' LS400. The car was actually built in 92' but it is a 93' model w/ the updated wheels and pass airbag. I do not know what else changed. Anyway the car had 15k on it when she bought it from an elderly couple out of Atlanta. They had bought a new 95' model. This car has been a superb companion for her over the past 8yrs now. It is sitting on 179k now. The car still runs very good and last spring I had it up to 120mph on a trip to Biloxi thru LA(lower Alabama). I was amazed at how well it still handled at those speeds. These cars have got to be the quietest cars on the planet.
Over the past 8yrs it has seen the Lexus dealer 5 times. All the oil changes, tune ups, timing belt/water pump services have been done by our local Toyota dealership. It cost half as much as Lexus. The few times it went to Lexus was for the power steering pump at 120k. That was a $1200 trip. The heat stopped blowing hot the 2nd time. The 3rd was for a radio problem. The 4th trip was a power antenna. The 5th time was for a set of rotors and pads. Currently the car needs another power antenna, the climate control LCD has liquified and sometimes the car shudders while trying to hit overdrive. You have to be lugging along at about 40mph for it to do it. If you accelerate smoothly it will not do it I do not know what that could be. Anyway what a deal! She has definetely gotten her 32 grand out of it for all of those miles.
Anyone else with a story?

A friend of my father's put 215K miles on his '89 LS 400. Very very few items had to be replaced; in fact, his major expense was a repaint three years ago. I'm not sure if he still has the car or bought a new LS430.
My father put 115K on his 93 GS300 and it had nothing, nothing done to it when he traded it in.
I have 86K on my GS 400 and plan on keeping it for quite a bit-even after I get another car in a couple years. The GS stays.

Had !!!
Guys.. back in the day I bought a 1990 LS400 at 120K, all service documented at Hennessey Lexus (Atlanta).
Needless to say my girlfriend wrecked it when it hit 198K.
This car purred and still turned heads I was a young lad and had major bling bling factor. .
I'm in the market now for a 2000 400. Can't wait.

Many more mile to come!
When i snagged my SC 400 from missouri last year i had it lexus certified...the guy told me that the engine will last over 250,000 miles if i just keep maintaining the car in its current condition it could go to 500,000 miles. i said 500,000 miles?...he said yeah!..he said that the dealers nationwide get together and talk about some of the cars they service and they claimed that Chicago has the most Lexus's with high miles..he said there are atleast 10 that he knows of that have over 500,000 miles...he said you will have no problem getting your car to 250,000 miles. i also learned that even Bill Gates has a lexus with over 250,000 miles...lol and a porsche 959...that he cant drive!...lol

Do you recall those ads from Toyota for the small pick-up trucks that had 300k+ miles on them. Why then is it hard to believe that a Lexus V8 could not do the same. My 1985 Toyota Tercel wagon had 233k miles when I sold it for $500.00 dollars to a single mom who drove it for another two years

1991 LS400: 201,588 miles...
1991 LS400: 201588 miles....and going strong.
Well, actually I have the A/C compressor is out to correct a leak. Switching to Freon 134a. And I will replace a power steering idleup device too, that is sucking up PS fluid.
I do all my own work. Bought the service manual when I got the car at 105,000 miles. Best $80 I have spent on the car.
Replaced the timing belt and idlers when the water pump started to leak at ~175,000.
Replaced the power antenna wand. Twice I think.
Lost remote door lock keys. Actually, only got one with the car. Not replaced.
Had a leak in the coolant reservoir tank that I succesfully sealed with urethane glue. [$140 saved]
Had a tough time getting the driver door open when lock mechanism jammed.
Had intermittent false theft alarms problem that I finally tracked to the left door lock sensor switch in the same assembly - ? coincidence? Cleaned contacts, new grease, reinstalled.
My Climate Control LCD went a few years ago. I just count beeps from low end [65 deg]. It's not worth $300 to fix it.
The coolant level sensor is bad - I disconnected it to put out the light. Again, not worth the cost to repair. I can check the level when I check the oil at each tank full of gas. Same for the brake fluid level sensor.
And that's about all. I don't think I spent $500 yet - including oil and filters.

189,000 on my '93 SC.
Just starting to break it in now!
I have less problems with this car than a lot of people with new cars.
Most people think it's no more than a couple years old which doesn't
bother me.

Before I bought my LS I talked with a service manager at the local dealership and he told be a few common problems to cretin year LS's but that the ownership experience would be pretty much trouble free.
There was a 1990 LS400 in the shop getting it's 4 timing belt replacement and the odometer read 489,xxx miles Apparently the owner is a traveling sales man, but if I can have half that with little to no problems I will be a happy camper
