Default The Truth About Speed Limits!

This is a video that makes a lot of sense IMO, about the truth of speed limits. I like how the video breaks it down so anyone can understand.

Very well reasoned and presented, it is nice to see someone using real data to make a logical argument.

What upsets me is that the minimum speed limit is 60 km/h and the maximum is 100 km/h. How can you have a 40 km/h difference on a highway? In reality the minimum should be 100 and the maximum should be 120-140 km/h, but we all know people would freak out. I know in the winter or when it is raining you do need to slow down.

Plus you have the service road at 50 km/h and some cases I have seen it being 70 km/h. I would just wish the government would just have everything standardized.

We just electronic signs that change during weather conditions and traffic conditions. That will never change seeing the government is dumber than a doornail and waste money on other crap. They will never change and just keep handing out speeding tickets.

When driving in the states the speed limit ranges, but in Michigan where I drive on the highway the most is 112 km/h (70 mph) roughly to our 100 km/h (62kmh). Which seems much more reasonable and there is generally more traffic in the states!(I should mention I am talking about Windsor or Sarnia area and comparing with Port Huron and Detroit area)
Seems like a petition might be in order....

They have those in Japan. The dumb part is even when they raise the speeds in the summer on nice days the speed limits are still super slow. I could never do the speed limit over there like 80 kph/50 mph on a 3 lane freeway.

maybe 105 or so. Over taking a slightly reckless driver that was constantly splitting the lane.

This guy is wrong on at least one major point. The video (conveniently) ignores the fact that one cannot escape the laws of physics. All else equal, the faster you go, the more kinetic-energy (energy of motion) your moving vehicle will have...and the more damage/injury/death will result from any impact you have at that speed. Nor, IMO, does the argument hold any water that the safest condition is to have all traffic all moving at the same speed. That will simply expose all of the vehicles (instead of just some of them) to potentially higher speeds and impact-forces if an accident does occur, although I will concede that it may also lower the actual chances of a collision, depending on the specific circumstances.

Also, have less reaction time. Longer stopping distances. I wish the speed limits were reduced TBH

The first couple of times I visited the US the maximum speed was 55 mph, even on the freeways.
