Lexus GS-F Exposed in Spy Photos
Is Lexus aiming to take on the likes of the BMW M5, Mercedes E63 AMG and the Cadillac CTS-V with its own Lexus GS? These spy-photos seem to indicate that the Japanese automaker is indeed whipping something together to compete in the super-sedan segment.
While this GS-F has yet to be seen in motion, there’s no denying that there’s something very special than the usual Lexus GS sitting in this garage.
For starters, the stacked quad-tailpipes are a dead giveaway that this isn’t the ordinary GS. Looking similar to what we saw on the IS-F (and the RC-F Coupe we saw a little while ago) the look of this exhaust system is starting to be a trademark for the high-powered Lexus vehicles.
Additionally, we can spot a diffuser out back, as well as a slight spoiler on the trunk-lid of the vehicle, both hinting at the sporty-potential of this new Lexus GS variant.
Finally, this GS-F is sporting some high-performance tires wrapped around the same F-Sport styled rims that the RC-F Coupe prototype was wearing. Adding fuel to this conspiracy is the fact that all the badges were missing on this GS and Lexus engineers tried their best to block any photo attempts, and it’s very likely that we’re actually looking at is indeed an upcoming GS-F.

otherwise it would be running behind the RC-F or vice versa 
imo lexus isnt looking to target the M5. instead they will do their own thing and offer us the V8 GS we all asked for since launch. the M5 feels like it went up half a segment both in price and power. lexus wont try to match that. there is no reason to. rich snobs will buy german regardless so why try to win them over? instead they will focus on the people who want something above the GS350 but not keen on getting the hybrid GS450h. imo 70k starting, like an S6, is the most likely scenario.
m5 and e63 didn't go up half a segment, it is where it has been. e60 m5 and w212 e63 are/were both hitting the 100k mark already, the new one is just about the same plus some inflation. the cars got what 50hp more? from e39 m5 to e60 m5 the power boosted from 400 to 500, but that definitely didn't make the car a segment higher. and of course lexus won't go there on price, they can't. just like the m3/c63 vs isf. no one would deny they are in the same segment, but isf costs noticeably less. that's how lexus always position themselves.

The Audi's AWD and price advantage helped it tremendously in that comparison. I would imagine the E63 AWD and RS6 (we'll be getting the RS7) will be on a very equal playing field. There's a comparison test floating around with the wagon version of both where the E63 barely eekes out a victory.

i have no problem with, but that car doesn't deserve gsf batch. it's just a v8 gs that's all. no problem going against s6 (and that's a nice car), but it's still not rs6

however if it is 4000+lbs and hence significantly slower, then you will have situation same as IS350... it might be actually a better car and handle better but BMW/MB will always have that "power" thing ahead of you.
still, it is nice to discuss these things :-)

I wouldn't at all be surprised to see this at 75k or even in the lower 70s and still make a hefty per-unit profit for Lexus. It takes a lot of options to get the 56k base price 450h up to 75k.
Either way, if this is the GS F, it'll be a niche low-volume model that will serve mostly just to expand the F lineup and take advantage of a great chassis, so it's hard to say what Lexus will price it at. The IS F was aggressively priced to sell; we just don't know if they'll follow suit with the GS.
Lexus is never going to compete with the Germans on horsepower wars. It's just not going to happen.
I think 465hp on the GS chassis at a 75k price point is a very solid offering and well worthy of the "GS F" nomenclature. The first supercharged E55 had 469hp and started at 83k (I remember the first one I ever saw was at a dealer and was optioned at 96k!!), and even 83k in 2003 is well over 100k in 2013 dollars. The GS F might be 10 years later, but it'll be a vastly better driver's car and have the Lexus advantages of far superior ergo and reliability.

Don't think the GS-F will have the same 465hp as the RC-F.
Remember that the GS will be positioned half a class higher than the RC.
Does anyone think the M5 will have the same hp as the M4? Same difference.
We might be looking at the same V8 as the RC-F but probably supercharged in the GS-F. For sure the GS-F hp > RC-F hp.

Jill,
Regarding your not lowered point, the car is elevated a bit on the lift so I do not believe we are looking at the actual ride height.
I find the tires to be kind of narrow for a GS F (I keep hoping for an AWD F car so maybe this one).

It's a test mule, so it makes perfect sense. In case something goes wrong on the track, it makes it practical and functional to have those tow hooks so the car can be easily retrieved.
