Default The Lexus "Lines"

Has Lexus always used this nomenclature?

The LS line, GS line, ES line, IS line, RX line, etc.

So why isn't this used by most people? I've never seen it here even in Club Lexus, most of the time it's just "the LS" or "the GS". I think now I'll start using this naming system.

It's just "the LS" and "the GS" and so.

For generations, 1st gen is 1LS, 2nd gen is 2LS and so forth.

For engine differentiation, we add the numbers . ISx50 is for both the IS250 and IS350. 2GS300 is the 2nd gen GS300 (pre 2006), before the 3GS300 (2006 only), before the 3GS350 (2007 to 2012), before the 4GS350 (post 2013).

Lexus would have "line" to complement the L designation.

Mercedes uses "class".

BMW uses "series".

Jaguar uses "type".

I know but that's for specific models. I just mean a general naming convention just like you said in your second post. But unlike the Mercedes "class", BMW "series", and Jaguar "type, the Lexus "line" is barely used by anyone. In fact, the website is the first time I ever saw it so I was wondering if this was a new system being pushed by Lexus. And also if anyone wants to join and start using this system as a way to support Lexus.

The whole thing makes perfect sense. They are now called lines because Lexus has expanded each model considerably over the years. Hybrids, F-sports, upgraded engines, different wheelbases, etc. There's a lot to choose from with each "line" of cars they offer. You can't just call it an "LS" anymore... that could mean four different models.

Always liked Jaguar's use of Type.

For most of Lexus's existence it's only had one model within a "line" (e.g. ES 250, GS 300, IS 300, LS 400, etc.). Instead, that makes it a solitary model.

Exactly. The only two models that are still "singular" so to speak, are the GX and LX (though the GX has that weak F Sport model).

LS Line
LS 600hL
LS 600h
LS 460
LS 460L
LS 460 F Sport

GS Line
GS 450h
GS 350
GS 350 F Sport
GS 300h (soon)
GS 250

etc.
