Default Boy am I glad I own a Lexus

Just worked on my friends Scion today. Her trunk garnish broke (a common problem with Scion's). There were screws that were stripping left and right. The design of the trunk is stupid, (no keyhole, just hatch). The Garnish was held together by cheapo screws and the original mounting bracket is a POS. There was screws where there didnt need to be. Most importantly, the button to open the trunk was literally playdoh material.

Cars built to different price points i guess. I mean theres a reason a 10 year old gs still cost more then a 2 year old Cobalt or corolla (assuming the gs is low mileage and clean)

My gs is definitely not worth more than a 2 year old corolla haha. I know what you mean though!

Scions, in general, rank extremely high on the reliability-lists from several rating-organizations, most notably Consumer Reports.

Many cars, today, BTW, no longer have separate trunk or passenger-side door keyhole-locks. They are considered unnecessary today, since most vehicles now come with electronic key-fobs.

i know in reliability its up there! But when the material is like playdoh and breaks apart while taking it off thats another story! No electronic keyfob (aka a button on the keys to open it)

I'm trying to find a picture of what I'm talking about but don't know the right terminology to google.

Okay, the correct terminology is Trunk Release Button.

Heres a picture of it completely melting on the car (just due to regular heat from environment)

Heres the referencing thread.

Lack of A/C is legally classified as cruel and unusual punishment down here.

Theres no pictures attached wypptzff.

That example just happened from Texas, but the problem is pretty prominent on Scions (just as the door lock actuators on Lexus)
