It is the next step toward autonomous operation. There are already a few cars on the market that can follow the lane's marking on the freeway and do stop and go.

I use the distronic plus on my friend's S-Class quite often, it is a little scary when it come to a stop by itself though as it follow pretty close (even on the farthest distance setting). It just makes me unsure if it really going to stop and if I have to intervene

It would be so dumb to rear end someone if the system fail.

I am NOT ready to relinquish control of my vehicle. Things like Blind Spot Monitor are great, things like Pre Collision I can live without. If I'm tired or not paying attention I shouldn't be driving, simple as that

I can't wait until cars become fully autonomous... I still love driving, but being able to do work on the way to work, and how much more efficient and safe driving will become are advances that are impossible to argue with. If necessary, I'll keep another car around for trips to the track and whatnot when that itch to drive and drive hard becomes too hard to resist. Then again, even the same car will likely be usable in both modes if this is done right.

how do you feel about the avg joe doing DIY repairs on their cars at home. Will you be able to sit there and work comfortably?

Cool feature but Im sure most would feel awkward using it for a while but after that it would be kind of cool of long distance trips. Im looking forward to cool new tech , and the S class is the pinnacle of automotive tech and gadgetry
