High Mileage Supra Anyone?
Hey guys, I know this is an ISF forum but was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or experiences with an MKIV Twin Turbo Supra (93-98). I'm considering one with higher mileage (150k+).
I tried posting on supraforums but it wouldn't allow me to make a new thread since I'm a new member
Just wanted to ask if you guys knew of any problems with those supras? I've heard of turbo leaks? But other than that I havent read about any other major problems? Also, what would the value be for an Automatic (yeah I know ) MKIV Supra with over 150k miles unmolested?
Thanks in advance everyone!

I'm assuming you want a TT? I've seen quite a few TT's with 150,000+ miles and run just fine. I've never heard of any issues that weren't caused by abuse or because the car was in an accident.
As far as NA Supras go, most high mileage ones I see are straight trash. The cars are very reliable but typically have been abused pretty bad. Engine wise it's about as reliable as a GS300, IS300, or SC300 would be.
I'd say $15,000 would be a decent price for a high mileage MKIV with an automatic transmission. It would have to be in good condition. Typically you can get a decent one with around 100,000 miles with an auto for around $20,000 if you're lucky.

Seems like the Supra MKIV has been a hell of an investment as it has kept so much of its value. For that price range you could get an E46 M3 (a much newer, high performance car with large aftermarket support) with half the miles.

Are we talking about a N/A or Twin turbo model??? If its an N/A model and been maintained/not ragged out, it should be as reliable as any other Toyota product. The turbo models are a lot more complex/maintence intensive, once again it all boils down to how well it was treated by the previous owner/owners.

Thanks for all the replies. It is the twin turbo model. I test drove it today and it drives very well. It needs some tlc to get it in mint condition but I definitely see the potential.
However, the targa top rattled like CRAZY. If I can't figure out a way to fix it, I personally wouldn't drive it no matter how nice it drove. The rattling is insane. Hopefully I can find some threads on how to fix it.
