I find this car virtually critic-proof because no matter what weakness it may have it's still awesome anyway!

Such an amazing car. Unfortunately, we will never see it on the road. 1/3 will be stuffed into oblivion in people's garages for the next 30 years, 1/3 will make debuts on youtube for wrapping around telephone poles, 1/3 will roll over after missing that decreasing radius turn 9. To think that Ford even required buyers to have a racing license for '95 Cobra R, which is like a turtle compared to this car.

Have owned over a hundred cars lifetime and this is my 1st Vette. That said, none of the Porsche's, BMW's, M/B/s, American or English cars were ever close to this car in handling or performance. This is my one and only Vette and probably after this 1st year and touring the country this spring she'll get a chance to rest and maybe be relatively young mileage wise and still good in condition when one of my boys takes her over some day. There is so much power and torque tho that I've never experienced before in a street car, I have no desire or use for the Z06. I'll admire one belonging to someone else and say "Nice Car". I'll remain very happy with my 2014 Z51 .

Great looking car, but with a 625hp Supercharged V8 it will probably end up being around 100K instead of 75K for the current 505hp Z06. Are they phasing out the ZR1 or will it just use a stronger version of the Z06 motor? I would have preferred a NA V8 making 560hp or so and it still be around 75K over having so much power which will be pretty unusable for a big price hike. Still very impressive car, if it does not go up significantly in price over the current one it will be the biggest performance bargain out there. I would still love a special version of the new Corvette with between 500 and 600hp.

So the new Z06 makes the ZR1 obsolete. Wonder if GM will come back and make a 700+hp ZR1 to take on the F12

Chevrolet says Corvette ZR1 not under consideration

Don't expect a halo ZR1 model to follow on the heels of the all-new Corvette Z06, says Chevrolet. The Z06 was in the spotlight yesterday when it was officially announced at the Detroit Auto Show. Constructed primarily of aluminum and composites and fitted with a 6.2-liter supercharged LT4 V8 producing "at least" 625 horsepower and 635 pound-feet of torque, the upcoming 2015 Z06 is the only range-topping model currently on the automaker's burner, according to Tadge Juechter, chief engineer on the C7.

Nearly 25 years ago, the C4 ZR-1, a cooperative effort with Lotus, put 6,939 units in the hands of customers between 1990 and 1995. There was no C5 ZR-1, but the automaker launched a halo C6 ZR1 (dropping the hyphen in the process) in 2009 that was discontinued only last year after the arrival of the all-new C7 Stingray.

While it is still under development, the new C7 Z06 should exceed the performance of the outgoing C6 ZR1 in every measurable benchmark. Pricing won't be released for months, but a low six-figure base price shouldn't raise eyebrows when its exotic construction, power output and talent are taken into account and compared against how much others in the segment are charging. (Juechter tells Autoblog that if you were able to afford a C6 ZR1, you can afford a new Z06).

Introducing a ZR1 halo car above the upcoming Z06, which is due at the end of the year, would require significant investment in design, testing and certification – for negligible performance gains. It appears that Chevy is choosing to focus on the Z06 for now, and wait for the next great technological leap before investing in another ZR1.

Probably in a couple of years when C7 sales slow down a bit, I loved the C6 Grand Sport!

Good point. The Grand Sport was added towards the end of the C6's life cycle and it spurred sales

While the new Z06 is amazing, that is pretty disappointing, why not just call the Z06 the ZR1 now since it is supercharged, will most likely have a 100K price tag, and they are not planning on doing a ZR1. There is a huge hp and performance gap between the 460hp Stingray and 625hp Z06 now, it would be nice for something in between like the did with the last Vette.
