Sad, sad pictures.
I have lost both of my cars to Sandy. They were both in my driveway during the storm - I have put the BMW on ramps and the Lexus was up on jacks, yet the water came up so high that they were completely flooded. The water was up to the steering wheels in the cars, and they are both totaled by the insurance company. I've pushed the Lexus out of the driveway so I can walk and move things out of the garage and the basement. Right now they are both just sitting there and waiting to be picked up and brought to the junk yard. Loosing that Lexus is like loosing a dear friend to me. Very sad.

Sad to see such nice cars ruined.
But if it was me I would not give up on the car. I would strip the interior and clean everything using a salt neutralizer. The engine bay will probably be fine if you replace all the fluids. I do understand that most people don't have the ambition or time to take such extensive steps, so it's probably time to say goodbye and move on. Sorry for your loss, I've lost cars to hail damage I know how it feels.

I would keep the car, and I offered the insurance company to pay me the value of the car less salvage value and let me keep it - I was going to use the money to repair it. But they said they can't let me keep it b/c NYS will not issue a flood title. If I didn't put the claim through, I could keep it, but its too late now.

I'm so sorry for losses Och. It's been painful seeing how many people have been affected by all of this in so many different ways. Never did I expect such a storm would actually occur here and cause this much damage.
Sorry to hear that, i know how long youve been on here, and actually i always remember the picture of that gs on the 1st gen gs wheels with snow tires. Its hard to lose a car, after a certain point, you become really attached to it, i know i am. It looked super clean to. Maybe this is just an opportunity in disguise. And in the end, cars can be replaced, people can't
