Big problem with Land Cruiser's tranny

Ok so he said he checked the fluid of the tranny and it's all black.
What does that mean?
I think the transmission fluid is just very dirty that it looks black he said that that is suspicious but I don't know.
But when I get time like in a week or 2 I'll go over there and look at the car personally.
