Just bought a '13 Elantra for my son
Son graduated college in June and will go to mortician school for 15 months to get his license.
Odd job choice of job but that's what he wants to do.He works for the funeral home now.
Anyway, the wife and figured his '08 Civic has 106K miles and we'll help out on new car. We'll pay 2/3's and he'll pay 1/3 and full when he works full time down the road.
He was rough on the Civic and now he'll have to pay something for the Elantra and will do half the miles now than the 106K in 4.5 years commuting to college and another job.
I wanted to buy a '12 Civic and had one lined up with good numbers. The Civic has great discounting and 0.9% financing.I was out voted by the wife, daughter, son in law,son and 1sicklexus.
So I said I'll look at the Elantra and if I like it and I can get a decent discount,we'll go for it.
Well,I actually liked the Elantra.Did some intense haggling.List was $19650 and I got it for $18400.Then went with the trade.
I feel it was a decent deal on a hot selling vehicle. Also got a 60 month 2.04% loan from Bank of America through the dealer.Hyundai was 3.9%.
The options
PREFERRED EQUIPMENT PKG
Vehicle with standard equipment; 16-inch alloy wheels; Steering wheel audio controls; Heated front seats; Bluetooth hands-free phone system with voice recognition; Cloth insert door trim; Sliding center armrest; Illuminated vanity mirrors with extensions; Illuminated ignition; Fog lights
Auto-Dimming Mirror w/Homelink and Compass
Carpet Mats
Mud Guards

Thanks,Allen.
The '13 Elantra comes in a coupe now but he preferred the sedan.I was surprised. The coupe is $400 more. Not bad.I always wonder why a coupe usually is more money.
No doors, power windows, assembly time and effort etc and the cost is usually more.

Yeah, years ago, I wouldn't even put hyundai in the car buying shopping list.
It's in there along with kia now.
Oh, put me in there for the people against a new civic.

Congratulations. A wise choice, though I'm not wild about the styling of the latest version, compared to the older ones.
I myself was giving Hyundai a green light more than five years ago.
That's not bad. Some top-line Accents, today, run more than that.
Break-in on today's new cars is less-critical than in the past, but your son would still be wise to take it easy on the engine, transmission, and brakes for the first 500-1000 miles....and get an oil and filter change soon after that.

Joe, nice car. Congrats on the purchase.
When you consider the price, content, warranty and styling I can see why the Elantra is selling so well. Seems like you got a good deal on a fast selling car.
A little over a year ago when we were looking for a new daily driver the Elantra and Mazda3 were our two finalists. The Elantra was just hitting the dealers so they weren't discounting them at all.
Give us a report after you've driven it a bit.

Good one.
No way I would let him get black even if he wanted that color.

.
He won't be driving it for another 3 weeks. He blew out his knee and needed an operation and now is in physical therapy.I'll break it in a bit with some miles over the nest few weeks.
The Accent well equipped lists for $17800 I believe.

There's more than a couple of Hyundai dealers in my area which helps.
Will do on the report.
I can tell you now the car isn't very quiet on the road but that's expected. It is quieter than a civic in the 8 miles I've driven it..
The interior is typical econo plastic but not bad and laid out nicely.Much nicer than a civic but that doesn't take much..
I did like the Civic a lot.The car was bulletproof.

me too - saw a new one up close the other day (biz event held at the local honda dealer) and that interior is so ugly.

I believe GS3 was mentioned black because of my son wanting to be a mortician.

On another subject, some states, by law, if you have an auto-insurance policy, automatically require the company to cover you for the first 30 days, even if the new car is not reported. Still, it's a good idea to call in the VIN to your company or agent and get it added ASAP. That's one of the (many) things I like about GEICO...they are open for phone-buisness 24/7, not just during the day on weekdays when the agent is at the office.
