To call one Two Eco would be the lowest trim level, and the Eco suffix would probably entail some features that would promote further fuel saving, such as smaller tires, different engine mapping, perhaps a more aerodynamic body kit, and even some lightweight choices such as cloth versus leather, manual seats instead of electric ones.

EDIT: the 2016 Prius will have these levels: Prius 2, Prius 2 Eco, Prius 3, Prius 3 Touring, Prius 4, Prius 4 Touring

Prius 2 vs 2 Eco - different brand of tire (same size), no spare wheel, lion battery instead of nimh, no rear wiper, different windshield plus extra smart entry system for $500... well worth it. Base Prius has full LED headlights as well, nicely equipped.

Also, the factory tire pressure spec is higher on the Two Eco (39/36) vs. (36/35) on the other 15" wheel models.

If you opt for the Prius Two Eco trim, you might have a problem in tremendously cold temperatures. A Toyota representative said that if the li-ion battery pack gets to below -29 degrees Fahrenheit, it doesn't work right, and the car itself might not be able to function because the battery is an integral part of the powertrain. It should be noted that an outside temperature of -29 won't be a problem in and of itself, since the battery is protected from the cold to some degree. Still, sitting for a week in some Point Barrow parking lot in the dead of winter might not be ideal. Then again, northern Alaska is a tough challenge for most vehicles.

LOL, I wouldn't even think about owning a Prius where the temps reach -29.

I've driven mine through those temps and it's fine. I know, it's not the Li-Ion battery but it does say battery temperature. It will take a few days parked outside for the battery to reach that temperature.

It's to reduce overall variability and individual options. Honda has seen similar proliferation, especially with the layers of Honda Sensing trims. LX, LX Honda Sensing, EX, EX-L, EX-L Nav, EX-L NAV Rear Entertainment, Touring, etc. etc.

With minimal a la carte options, it would now be easier for consumers to shop across dealers. You know that generally a Prius 3 and one dealer is the same as a Prius 3 at another dealer.

............and that doesn't even take into account the other Prius body-styles, like the small entry-level Prius C and the extended-length Prius V wagon.

Bringing to the table improved driving dynamics, evocative styling, and fuel economy of 40.8 km/L (under the JC08 test cycle), Toyota's fourth-generation Prius launched at dealers across Japan today. Toyota is targeting monthly sales of 12,000 units in the Japanese market.

I'll admit the exterior looks strange in pics...but I'm reserving judgement until I see a few on the road....but its starting to grow on me...maybe the shock has worn (or wore?) off

The Prius never won beauty contests. Prius owners are known to want to look different.

Hell, even Lexus is now pulling off the same mantra.

That yellowish/lime Prius looks a heck of a lot better than that Daybreak Yellow on the CT200h a few years ago
