Toyota tried to push the envelope on styling and they pushed too hard. You can go futuristic and remain tasteful but in this case the lines are just too wacky. Definitely won't age as well as the 3rd gen.

BTW, those are going to be some expensive fender benders!

No amount of drivetrain improvement will get me into a 4th gen Prius. I thought Honda was bad at styling..

Kill. It. With. Fire. I'd be able to forgive the rear if the front was ok but damn... What a mess. Looks like a bionic gerbil.

Not too pretty but then that won't stop the masses. Prius marches on.

The main hindrance on sales will be current gas prices. The crossover SUV segment will continue to grow and bring down car sales as well.

But yeah, the people that were buying Prius's before won't shy from this one.

What is the point of that rear end glass section between the Toyota emblem and top of the trunk?

Played around with photoshop a little bit and removed the "fangs" from both the headlights and taillights. I think it looks more streamlined and less busy.

Lexus and Toyota (Nissan too) certainly are going all in on crazy lines, creases and angles. Not what I'd call a good look at all.

I can only hope that all those crazy lines actually serve to enhance aerodynamics. But then again the CLA has proven that you don't need to go crazy on the shape and lines in order to achieve a record-breaking drag coefficient of 0.22.

IMHO the people in charge of styling at Toyota and Lexus should be fired. The 2016 Lexus RX and this new Prius are the most hideous vehicles coming out this year.

I like it the styling and I can see how it kind of lines up with the Murai. What I really hope Toyota does is get rid of the center speedo. Or perhaps have a second dash option where you can choose.

it is not just about cd, you also have to reduce frontal area as much as possible. Looking over some euro comparos between A3 and CLA, not everything is in stats either - A3 Sedan gets better consumption numbers even if it has 0.29cd vs 0.22cd.

I like the look of the new Prius. However, it looks a bit too aggressive for what it is.

I think this 0.22 claim is a bit of a marketing stretch.
C&D had a very good article on aerodynamics of modern cars and found out in reality it is more like 0.30. Compared to 0.26 of a Prius and 0.24 of a Tesla Model S.

Actually the CLA that boasts a 0.22 Cd is the CLA180 BlueEfficiency, available only in Europe, while the CLA C&D tested is a US-spec'd CLA250, with far less aerodynamics-optimizing trickeries.
