Hey Club Lexus!.

After nearly 6 years with my 95 SC300, I've finally moved on to a 2012 Prius. I was originally planning on picking up a 2012 CT200h F-Sport Special Edition but after careful considerations in terms of finances and what I was using my car for (daily beater/work car) I decided that owning a luxury car only to have to look after it (too much) would be a pain in the ... although I'm still pretty **** when it comes to the Prius as my girlfriend already scratched the bottom of the passenger door due to a pesky sidewalk. I got the Prius III with sunroof/navigation in Winter Grey Metallic and I'm loving it so far! The only mods I've done so far is 35% tint in the front and 17% in the rear (10 windows total) I will upload pictures when there is finally some sunlight here. I plan on doing a headlight retrofit on it. The SC hasn't been driven in a while but I do plan on taking it out from time to time just to get some clutch/gear action going. The headlights are flickering on the SC and I don't like taking it out at night in case I get another fix it ticket. I may finally make it into a project car... but it needs A LOT of work .

2012 is when they started the LED DRLs. LED headlights are only on the Prius V (5) from factory anyway. 2011> do not have the DRLs.

 

Welcome to the Prius family. I find mine to be a good commuter car with great mileage and acceptable comfort, room, and handling. Power is lacking, but that's not its purpose - and it's still quicker than my 07 Outback was. My only complaints are the squeaky & easily scratched "green" plastics used in the interior and the cold start knock problem if you previously didn't let the engine warm up.

 

Cold start knock problems? Hm... I haven't had any problems with that so far but where I live our weather never hits below 45F really. I was thinking of getting this http://priuschat.com/shop/product_in...products_id/93 so I can get great MPG from the get-go. Cold starts kill my MPG but I'm not sure I'd get use to plugging the car in for 5 or so minutes before leaving.

Congrats on the new Prius, So many great technology packed into that little car, but the Prius already has a storage pump that keeps the coolant warm for a long period of time so a block heater is really not needed(unless you live in a place that is really cold)

 

Cant hate on a prius - i drove from sacramento to san diego doin 75 most the way with 1/4 tank left no stops and $22 to get it back to full. Gotta love rentals

The problem has nothing really to do with outside temperature, but with the warm-up cycle of the current generation Prius. If you quickly turn the car off after starting it from cold without running the engine for a number of minutes, the next start may result in nasty knocking from the engine. I've only had it happen after moving my car in the driveway and then starting it again sometime later. Toyota has a TSB out that may or may not fix the problem. If you have to move the car, make sure you can do it in EV mode during the ~14 seconds delay before the gas engine starts. There is quite a bit about this issue on PriusChat.

 

Congratulations. A great car for saving gas...and, in some cases, getting tax-credits and HOV-use-priviledges. As far as the choice between the Prius and a CT200h goes, the CT's interior is somewhat nicer, but, IMO, it doesn't have Lexus-grade refinement, ride-smoothness, and noise isolation. The main problem with the Prius (as you yourself stated) are the thin, lightweight-materials inside....but that, IMO, is countered by one of the most reliable and efficient powertrains in the industry.

Bro congrats! We got the Prius V and tint the sugar out of it. Love how digital and updated the displays are. Of course, the interior lacks spaceship amenity and fluidity like the panamera S (garage queen), and the back up camera quality and the lack of guidance lines are not as good as Nissan Cube's (to our surprise).

The combined mpg on Prius V so var is 46.3 mpg, with lavish use of Power Mode. It is stylish, spacious, and puts gas-o-mean bills in check. I tell people every family should have at least one hybrid.

 

My GF likes my Prius better than my former LS, LX, or new GS. I think that's a good sign, as she's not one of those tree-hugging, lib, Prius lovers.
