GM, Ford, Chrysler, VW, and many auto suppliers have had plants in Mexico for 20+ years due to lower labor costs.

true, nothing against Mexico - they just need to keep the Jobs here in the USA, especially now. I do understand certain Unionized individuals were uprooting the factories for years but now is the time to bring the Jobs back home - New Balance is a good example, they have shut down factories overseas and opened new ones here in America. my shoes actually say "made in America" and I love that. Toyota has even proved that good quality cars/parts can be built/assembled in America. like the Tundra and Camry!

Interesting that bad wheel mounting pads would only affect steel wheels but according to the recall alloy wheels aren't affected?!? How does that make sense?

Lexus had its own share of safety recall issues, I wouldn't be confident driving any manufacturer's car.

Maybe the steel wheel models have a different set of brakes than the alloy wheel models. I'm just guessing here though.

Can't point too many fingers at the Fusion and Milan, though. This wheel-recall is simply a precaution....no actual wheels have actually fallen off in any documented cases. From the news-stories I saw this evening, it is directed at corrosion of wheel-mounting bolts, not pads...but none have actually caused any accidents.

The Fusion and Milan, otherwise, are excellent cars. They have had a well-above-average reliability record in their FWD versions (less so for the AWD), and have been highly recommended by Consumer Reports. I was especially well-impressed with the Fusion Hybrid when I reviewed it.

In fairness to Ford, Toyota/Lexus went through quite a recall pattern not too long ago. Although ours seems to be more of the nitpick stuff rather than major issues.
