Default Ferrari splits in two in Malibu

Sadly, one person died. I'm sure the story will break at Autoblog in the morning. Local news has been showing it all day.

Saw it on the local news as well. It seems like when ferraris' crash they always split in half with the engine flying out. Good thing lambos are now german made and they don't seem to have the same safety problem.

Probably the higher than normal speeds contribute to the higher than normal destruction, but I'd guess these exotic companies would take that into consideration and build these cars to a higher strength (?).

Some Ferraris are designed to break apart in high impact accidents to dissipate energy. There was a previous Enzo accident also on PCH that also broke into pieces. The idea is for the engine and everything else to break away from the passenger compartment.

^ +1. The car breaking apart actually has a function, its the car taking all the impact and transferring less of it to the occupants.

Yup. The founder of TapOut also died in a crash in which his Ferrari split in half.

Newton's 2nd law, conservation of momentum, mv = m1v2 + m2v2.

The engine and transmission are most of the weight of the car (aside from, of course, the body itself), so it takes less force to bring the front section to a halt. (F=ma)

One may agree or disagree but one cannot argue with the science and the numbers as well. It's just how it is I guess......

It's more darwin rather than newton.
While the rest of the world evolved by making their cars stronger and safer ferrari is still stuck in 1997 making things split in half throwing out it's occupants and randomly catches fire.

It's sad but in the end its just another death in a high powered sports car because the driver was driving like an ***. A few years back someone did the exact same thing in an Enzo. It also split in half

Its a saftey feature. If you want to see a cool split up car watch what happens when a bugatti veyron 16.4 splits apart. That's only a 1.5 million dollar mistake. Hate to pay that insurance premmium.
