The above GX pic verifies what I said earlier on. The new dash is more truckish. Again, I don't think that's progress.

The new interior looks a lot better quality VS 07-11 models. 92-96 has the best build quality, 97-01 is solid, 02-06 quality going down, and 07-11 is the worst build quality I have seem in a Camry. I had a 07 Camry couple years a ago, and I was shocked to see all the gaps on the dash, around the trims, and trash can grade interior plastic. ( Couldn't stand it, and sold it after 6 months) I have had, bought and sold at least 60+ Camrys, the last Gen was the worst among them all. New gen looks promising in the pictures, can't wait to see it in person.

The 'flow' looks the same with the downward plastic being replaced with faux leather material with stitching. How that looks worse than the last GEN. is beyond me. If it were all black it wouldn't be so pronounced, I think that'd be great.

For such a "boring" car everyone seems to be talking about it

This seems like a universal belief, but I completely disagree. It was all cheap plastic, and not nearly as tightly assembled as today.

1992 >

2012

Even the 2007-2011 Camry that everyone bashes is far more refined than the the '92.

Literally almost everything in the Gen 3 was soft touch plastic. Yeah, the interior design and color, especially in that photo, is dated today, but in 1992 that was one of the best interiors you could get and better than even many luxury cars.

The Gen 6 interior doesn't compare to the quality, both materials and fit n' finish of the previous models.

The 3rd generation was without a doubt the best built Camry to date IMHO. I remember first seeing the commercial of the debut of the '92 Camry. They touted how asphalt sheeting was used in floor board and dash in order to keep out noise. The early commercials also used key words like quality, craftsmanship, and refinement to describle the attributes that went into the car. Words that I do not hear to describe the current 6th generation in today's commercials. This car was the "gold standard" of the midsize car market at the time. The interior was very high quality for its time, and you had a choice whether to buy a Japan or US built car.

Although I do feel that the 5th generation is where quality dropped significantly, Toyota, starting with the 4th gen Camry did admit that they were going to some "decontenting" or cost cutting measures to the car that 'probably would not be noticed by consumers.'

No doubt the 3rd gen was the best among its competitors, as future generations would face stiffer competition. It was actually built beyond the standards of the class so that Toyota could really make a splash and establish themselves as the clear benchmark. It's safe to say Toyota wasn't making much money on the early years of the 3rd gen. A good comparison would be how Toyota built the Prius at a loss for years knowing that it would pay off big in the future. The 3rd gen Camry is the reason that the Camry has been at or near the top since.

But as over-built as the 3rd gen Camry was, I'd put good money down betting that the 6th gen ('07-'11) Camry's will outlast even the long lasting 3rd gens. That's just the reality of modern cars.

My "cheaply" built '07 Yaris sedan has 113,000 miles and has needed ZERO repairs. Feels like it was built yesterday. I can bet '92 Camry's didn't perform that well as great as they were.

It's the third best selling car in the Lexus Manila lineup

Oh well. Life moves in mysterious ways

P.S.

This JDM/Rest of the World Camry imho looks better at least compared to what you guys have in Stateside.

Just what I think
