I am sure the smaller V6 458 is some BS rumor written by a Ferrari hater..................Ferrari made it pretty clear they want to go up market, not down.

Ferrari plotting entry-level model with 500 bhp twin-turbo V6 2.9-liter engine - repo

A new report indicates Ferrari is currently working on an entry-level model which should come out before the end of the decade.
Automobile Magazine has an extensive report about Ferrari's plans for the next several years which will kick off with the 2015 M458-T Italia, a V8 twin-turbo-powered version of the 458 Italia packing around 670 bhp (499 kW). Also next year Ferrari will launch a 1,050 bhp LaFerrari FXX limited at 30 units along with a LaFerrari Spider which will be twice as expensive as its fixed roof sibling and will be produced in 50 examples.
A mid-cycle refresh for the FF is planned for 2016 with a power boost to 700 bhp (522 kW) and will also be offered with a twin-turbo V8 engine. Also that year a refreshed F12 will be out with even more power and slightly revised styling. By mid-2017, Ferrari should introduce a second generation California equipped with the same power retractable hardtop.
The most important piece of the report is related to a new entry-level model speculatively called 456 (although it wouldn't fit in Ferrari's nomenclature) which is believed to adopt a new twin-turbo V6 2.9-liter engine developing 500 bhp (373 kW) and 440 lb-ft (596 Nm). Although not confirmed, the model could be offered with a manual gearbox and will carry a starting price of at least 175,000 EUR.

One day, I would love to drive a 458 spyder just to hear that motor roar!
Lucky to have my friend let me drive his 458 coupe once in a while and I can tell you it's one special car, this is the logical upgrade maybe when the kids go to college

Power jumps to 636 PS
Following a tuning project for the Ferrari 458 Italia from 2011, Novitec Rosso has revealed a new program for the most powerful version of the Italian supercar – the 458 Speciale.
The tuners have developed a lightweight body kit that includes new spoiler and blade for the front bumper, carbon-fiber moldings with gill-shaped profile for the rear side windows, a rear wing and a carbon-fiber diffusor with an electrically adjustable center section.
The German tuners say these improvements not only give the car a more thrilling appearance, but also minimize negative lift on the front and the rear axles, “benefitting directional stability at high speeds”.
Various performance kits will be available for the Novitec Rosso 458 Speciale. The range-topping tuning stage boosts the power output of the 4.5-liter eight-cylinder engine to 636 PS (468 kW) at 9,250 rpm. Peak torque jumps to 572 Nm (422 lb-ft) at 5,550 rpm. A slightly higher rpm redline results in a top speed of more than 330 km/h (205 mph).
Novitec Rosso has also paid attention to the exhaust system of the car. It consists of two high-performance exhaust manifolds, sports catalysts and a rear muffler. The system features two matte black-coated tailpipes with a diameter of 100 millimeters that produce “an optimized power yield and a sportier sound”. Its construction from INCONEL, the same material used for the exhaust systems in Formula 1, makes the system seven kilograms lighter than the stock one. The sports exhaust will be also available as a stand-alone option with a version with electronic sound management.

I have driven both, the sounds mostly depends on the exhaust the car have, opening the top don't add a whole lot of volume, it add more wind noise if anything.

A Ferrari 458 Speciale was seriously damaged a few days ago in South Africa during a Ferrari Club track day.
In February a Smart ForTwo collided with a brand new Ferrari 458 Speciale in Germany and now another accident has been registered but this time in South Africa where a range-topping 458 was taking part in a track day organized by the Ferrari Club at the Kyalami raceway in Johannesburg. On the last corner before the straight, the driver lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed and hit a tire wall, causing extensive damages to the 458 Speciale.
What really matters is the driver got out of the wrecked car without suffering any injuries, despite what appears to have been a serious impact judging by the damages this 458 Speciale suffered to its front fascia.
