Default Report: BMW X3 M getting ready to rumble

Report: BMW X3 M getting ready to rumble

According to the wizards at Europe's CAR magazine, sources within BMW have confirmed that the high-performance X3 M could launch as early as 2012. A stupid-fast X3 hardly seems necessary, but then again, that's what we said about the larger X5 M and X6 M before falling in love after our stints behind the wheel.

CAR states that the X3 M will likely be powered by a tweaked version of the new six-cylinder engine bound for duty in the M3. In the X3, this engine will reportedly produce somewhere around 450 horsepower, and could use a brand new tri-turbo system – one electric turbocharger paired with two exhaust-gas-driven units.

A 450-horsepower X3? With three turbochargers? Sounds absurd (and is to be taken with a grain of salt... for now), but based on our experiences with the rest of BMW's M range, consider us totally stoked.

I think the Alpina B7 is the closest to the M7 they'll ever make

X3M??? really.....really...... BMW is producing M versions of cars that dont need it, namely the X6M, X5M, and now this. Why not an M7 to match the beasts from AMG. At least the sedan has the dynamics that can be made sporty. A car that 8" off the ground not so much

sorry russ, but alpina is nothing be aftermarket company to me, nothing different from dinan or brabus, etc... until bmw comes out with their own m7, or they buy out alpina like mb with amg, i see them as not having a m7

I have no issue with BMW whoring out the M like AMG and RS have done, I think its pretty cool. That said I really don't want to hear how great it is when it's simply an image car that will weigh 4500 lbs and be an automatic stuck in traffic or in the mall.

That's exactly the kind of car (stick shift base Nissan) I rent when visiting Mexico, just to have some sporty fun.
