Breaking: 2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class hatches a bit early
You're looking at what appear to be the patent images for the 2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class. The images found their way into Belgian automotive site AutoScoop.be, and you can peruse them in the gallery below.
We expected the car to ditch most of the concept-crazy before it winds up in dealer showrooms. The version seen here does stick to the overall form of the concept, minus the hypnotic grille and several of the deep creases found all over the conceptual car's body.
What we're left with is a car that's clearly a Mercedes-Benz, but not particularly far from the hatchback standard. Bits of CLS can be found in the curving roof-line and that familiar MB mug is staring you down front and center. We're excited to see this hatch (expect CUV and sedan variants as well) in the flesh at an auto show later this year.

Illustration - 2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Klasse
In their latest issue, Autobild reveal the ultimate details about the secret plans of Mercedes-Benz regarding the future portfolio of small and compact models. The first of the series, the B-Klasse, which shall retain the MPV shape, will arrive this year at the IAA Frankfurt in September. One year later, the new A-Klasse 5-door hatchback (rendered above) is programmed for the official release on the market. Starting from this two basis variants, Mercedes-Benz will spawn an entire range of body versions, including a 4-door coupe, a 3-door hatch, a compact SUV tipped to wear the title BLK, a tourer in the form of a future CLC and God knows what's further to come. The new cars will be developed on the innovative Mercedes Frontwheel Architecture (MFA), that will be premiered on the 29th January at the special celebration event held at the Mercedes-Benz Museum, in Stuttgart. Renault will provide most of the engines (1.2 to 1.6 liters) which will power the new models, as part of the alliance with Daimler.

It suddenly occurred to me that I've seen the design for this new A class before. In fact we all have.
Does this look familiar?
In 2009 the company released their Blue Zero concept. At the time it was an indication of what the future B class might look like. Instead, many design cues from this concept car went to this new A class.
I must admit that at the time I found the Blue Zero concept car strangely attractive. I still do.

I want cel shaded version :-).
p.s. I cant wait to see what Autobild thinks of Renaults engines in MB. New Megane didnt do well with those engines compared to VW, let alone asians.
