Default A Lexus for Monaco's Royal Wedding

While attention around the world is focused on the impending marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton, further south in Europe they're preparing for another royal wedding: that of Prince Albert II of Monaco to Miss Charlese Wittstock. And they've just announced the vehicle that will be used in the July 2 wedding.

This Lexus LS600h has been specially outfitted with the royal flag, "MC 01" license plate and flashing lights. As a hybrid, it will be able to drive at a parade pace on pure electric mode, and has elevated Lexus to the status of Official Supplier to the principality in the process.

A Lexus for a British Royal wedding? Sacrilege. What about a Rolls Royce or Jaguar?

Don't get me wrong. The LS is a great car, but what about national honor? If there were a time when the use of a Rolls Royce was appropriate, this would be it.

Pretty cool!

Prince William’s marriage to Kate Middleton is not the only Royal wedding on the calendar this year, as Monaco’s Prince Albert II (53) is set to marry South African Olympic backstroke swimmer Charlene Wittstock (33) on July 2, 2011.

But unlike most Royal weddings, there won’t be a fleet of Bentley‘s and Rolls Royce‘s to whisk away the newly married couple. Prince Albert II is instead going to make use of hybrid Lexus models.

In a statement released by Lexus, they mentioned that the prince “takes a keen interest in encouraging innovative solutions for environmental protection and sustainable development around the world, founding the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation in 2006. His Foundation supports more than 150 projects monitoring environmental evolution and protecting species endangered by climate change.”

The prince has long been a supporter of hybrid and electric mobility solutions and offers a massive tax credit to anyone who chooses to buy an electric car, although most well-to-do residents of this principality still prefer to drive around in exotic luxury vehicles.

Lexus failed to mention which hybrid models it will use to chauffeur the newly weds, but anything less than a LS600hL would be shocking.
