I thought the top speed for the average Moped, Honda 50, Scooter-bike, etc......, with a typical load and rider, was around 40-50 MPH (that's why many of them are not allowed on Interstate highways). He was clearly going faster then that, though...perhaps (?) from the aerodynamic/streamlining effect of his body lying prone and not upright into the wind.

Also, no helmet? Didn't look like he was wearing one. In most states, that's a no-no.

The video was done in Morocco.

No helmets required. Basically everything is done at risk.

And with no government regulations, I'm pretty sure that little moped has a bunch of things that would make it faster but also fail international emissions standards.

Thanks...I had some audio-problems with it and wasn't aware it was in North Africa. As you note, that explains the no-helmets. I doubt if it has emissions standards, either.

Nice-looking highway for a third-world country....especially one where, not too long ago, many people rode around on donkeys and camels.

Probably why the roads are so nice. I lack firsthand experience in this matter so I may be wrong but I don't think beasts of burden create many pot holes.

Probably more a matter of the warm, dry, semi-tropical desert climate and lack of snow and ice freezing/thawing on the roads. It also shows how rapidly some traditional desert-culture Arab/Bedouin countries have industrialized and turned to automobiles.
