Default Report: Ford scaling back on model changes in 2011

Report: Ford scaling back on model changes in 2011

Ford is ready to come up for air. The automaker has been updating its product line with great quickness and now it's ready to take a breather. 33 percent of the Blue Oval's product line has been replaced for 2010 and Ford says it will be scaling that back next year. The lineup is currently bolstered by the likes of the 2011 Ford Edge, Fiesta, Explorer and, of course, the Mustang with its wonderful new engines.

Still, the plan is to outpace the rest of the competition and move to a fleet built upon global platforms. Ford's goal is to accomplish this by 2013 which will allow the automaker to reduce costs across the board and cut away at its $5.4 billion debt. This is welcome news to people who bought 2011 Mustangs, yet owners of not-as-fast 2010 models are still being monitored for signs of depression.

One of my friends has a base 2010 Mustang. 210 horsepower.

I'm really tempted to get a 2011 Mustang GT to mess with him.

There needs to be some kind of 'Auto god of the decade' award for Alan Mulally.

Being a stock owner, I completely agree, though the stock hasn't been doing much in a while though.

So far, best corporate story of the last 5 years, ESPECIALLY on top of Barry bailing out GM

And Mulally is a biz guy, NOT a car guy.... EXACTLY what they needed

I'd have to argue that being a passionate car guy is just as important as being a savvy business man in the top spot.

It's the all business types that are generally the bean counters that lead to the cheap crap that the Big Three built throughout the '80's sand '90's. It takes genuine car enthusiasts to push for the type of quality Ford is putting forth now.

Then again, any good business sense makes one realize that success can only be achieved through superb products.

I don't know much about Mulally, but I must assume he is just as much a car guy as he is a business guy. Just the right balance and Ford couldn't have picked a better guy.

He has to be at least somewhat of a car guy, Russ. Otherwise, Ford would not be making the products it is today. Same at GM.....car guy Bob Lutz helped GM transform some of its products, too.

Good biz (for profitabality) is letting the car guys in the company do the job. Certainly some outstanding progress in last few years.
