Default Rolls-Royce goes out to lunch with custom orders

Rolls-Royce has announced the availability of – wait for it – a new picnic set! What, not excited? Did we mention that it's made from polished aluminum, leather and wood veneers? Well that's just fine. We'll enjoy our champagne and caviar on the green without you. But that's not even the point – the popularity of customizing a new Rolls-Royce motorcar is.

On the Phantom family alone – discounting the popularity of the new Ghost – custom orders from Rolls-Royce have skyrocketed in the past few years in markets around the world. In the Middle East, for example, about 90 percent of Phantoms ordered last year had something off the usual options list ordered. That's up from 75 percent in 2005, the level at which all of Rolls-Royce markets worldwide are holding at in terms of customization, up from 50 percent in 2005.

Rolls-Royce's Bespoke design and engineering department can fulfill a variety of special orders, from the customer's name on the sill plates and special veneers to custom luggage and picnic sets like this one. Details in the press release after the jump.

Who, that would drive this car, wants to go for a picnic?

I mean it's neat and I like the luggage that fits oh so nicely in the trunk, but a picnic set?

Lunch at a beach side restaurant yes ... but those places tend to come with table settings.

That thing must cost as much as certain cars lol

I would love to have a Rolls Royce when I am older. Hopefully I will be successful in the next decade *fingers crossed*

I would consider it for sure. I don't know how many times we go on picnics with the kids as an after thought and forget to put in the essentials. And if the roads weren't so narrow here I would have considered these kind of cars, but as is happens they are. Not only that , they stand out like a sore thumb.

No Grey Poupon? That must be an additional option.

I do these posts at 200 mph between patients sometimes. Its a mistake. I am not a college kid trying to steal someones work. I posted the 3 posts you are referring to at the same time. This is not done intentionally. I am just trying to keep car chat fresh. I am one of the most active members of this forum. Give me some credit man

PS I dont refuse to do it like you stated. I just forgot . I am sure its happened to you from time to time in life

Interesting, I sit (I'm not standing at the moment) corrected.

Seeing were talking about RR. Found a 2010 Phantom for sale... C$389k. With a little over 300 km road use. Not sure how its the same price as the US model.

first of all, most people probably have a chauffeur driving the car
which means they will have the chauffeur making the picnic happen

you'd be surprised at how some ultra-rich people get tired of the mundane high cholesterol food in gourmet restaurants and once in a while just want to indulge in some simple peasant food like a caviar lobster salad on a freshly baked french baguette with some champagne...
