Sounds like he was on a suicide mission driving down the wrong side of PCH at 100mph.

Thanks for sharing, also excellent news coverage, the story, diagrams and video. The driver of the Evo had a death wish and the cops did the right thing by shooting him, he could of hurt alot more people. Remember a car, especially a car like that, in the wrong hands is a dangerous weapon.

I disagree...
The driver could have just been an idiot and not on a suicide run.
When one is knocked out and regains consciousness, they will be disoriented and may do irrational things - just look at some boxing bouts. This does not mean that they deserve to get shot for not following instructions. Having said that, he is responsible for this mess and he could have hurt or killed a lot of people - still, there are simply better and safer ways of stopping the car than by firing at the driver. If he was moving at 10 mph in a wrecked car, I think that the cops could have simply boxed him in with their cruisers. What if a stray bullet killed someone? Would you still think it was a good idea?
Does not sound justified to me.

P.S. One of the interviewed people said that the tires squealed when the car got moving. I think that it could be because the suspension is bent and the front wheels point in different directions - not because he just took off like a bat out hell.

I was surprised to read the officer shot on the car, but I can certainly understand why considering what the driver was doing. The driver is using his car as a deadly weapon. In that case, do you shoot to stop him from harming other people, which is very likely the case?

For those who don't think the officer had a right to shoot, what if someone was already killed by this guy seconds ago? You don't know what happened so don't make any judgements.
