Great rundown on the alternatives Cndrockies (one of the beautiful places in the world by the way). Have narrowed things down to the smaller SUVs with the Q5 in the lead over the RX. The Q5, particularly with the S-line 20" wheels is a borderline sports car in desguise. The RX has a great all around package with more hauling utility as mentioned.

Thought the ML 350 was a bit slow on take off due to the larger size and heavier weight. Maybe the diesel version with more torque would be an improvement over the gas version that I drove. Both the RX and Q5 seem more limber and capable of the quick turns without a lot of leaning in the curves, particularly the Q5 with its tighter suppension.

hendjaz,

If you get the Q5 S-line, you should really consider the Audi drive select option. This option is light years ahead of what everyone else have on the market right now as far as custom drive characteristic. You can literally go from the ride comfort of a RX350 to the driving dynamics of a Audi A4 with a push of a bottom. Talk about having the best of the both world

As a follow up, I bought a Q5 Prestige/S-line this past week. Had Blizzak LM60s (came with 20" summer tires so wanted to change out quickly given the season) put on yesterday and I am good to go for the winter. Great vehicle and was what I was looking for in a fun to drive and decent mileage SUV with enough utility room to get by for most things. Much more fun to drive than my testing of the ML 350 and the RX, although as said before the RX is a great all around package and was a close second. We have a larger SUV for third row seating and utility purposes so the smaller to mid-size SUV was just right.

Q5s are a bit hard to come by as there was very little inventory on the lots that I looked at. I quickly grabbed the one I got the night it came to the dealer as it had my first color choice.

ive been seeing the Q5 around town
quite a nice looking SUV for its size
i actually like it a lot better than Q7

Q5 is well engineered and with comparable interior room to Q7, why not get Q5?

unless you want to wait for the new GX to come out

Congrats on the new Q5!

Look forward to your review after putting a few more miles on it.

Congrats on the Audi Q5. The upcoming N55 powered BMW X3 will make the Q5 seem like a VW Microbus in comparison

Good choice hendjaz, the S-line is one sharp looking SUV. As my wife would say, buy the RX or the ML is you want to make your passengers happy, buy the Q5 or X3 if you want to make the driver happy
