This is an JDM car... Toyota sells many car variations in Japan, because they have 6 different dealer networks/brands and >40% of the market.

I wish they sold Avensis with this powertrain....

Yup a lot of dealer networks (most notably Netz and Toyopet are the most well-known dealer networks there and heck I don't even know the rest :P)

Do we know this for a fact despite he HS coming out first? I would be curious to know if this was originally designed as a Toyota, and hence the more econobox look.

Yeah but part of that scarcity could be because production favoured U.S. spec cars.

Excellent point. Just because the HS came out first does not mean it was designed as a Lexus. Clearly the HS is a rebadged Toyota Sai. Every aspect of the HS reaks of Toyota. It does not have Lexus styling and looks like a fancy Corolla. It all makes sense now

A bit of a snoozer, don't think the typical HS buyer will ever know or care.

actually, it is using platform of Avensis, which is more luxurious than Camry, let alone Corolla and the fact that it is very low volume vehicle that has more tech features than any other Toyota, probably means that it was engineered with both versions in mind.

Basically, it means that Toyota buyers will get Lexus interior quality even in cheapest models (for instance like Prado does), so thats nothing anyone can complain about.

This is very interesting and the Toyota Sai is a rebadge.

Sai = HS 250h
Camry/Scepter/Vista/Aurion/Windom = ES 350
Altezza = IS 300
Harrier/Kluger/Highlander = RX 350
Landcruiser Prado = GX 470
Landcruiser Cygnus = LX 470

Makes no difference. The engineers who put this thing together put it together knowing full well that that it will be used as a Toyota is some places while in others it will be used as a Lexus.

If they named this thing a PRIUS sedan and sold it here.... I think they will appeal to a broader range of buyers...not all like hatches!!

oh god. That Sandy Beach Metallic version looks horrid.

In this case, I'd say the HS250h looks better.
