Why the Corvette's days are numbered
I can afford a car in the Corvette's price range too, but I cannot afford a Corvette because I would need a second car in the winter and when I have more than 1 passenger.
Even though I live in a moderate climate area of CA, I always own second vehicle (4wd SUV for truck duties and use in snow in the high Sierra mountains/Lake Tahoe). Yes, having a second vehicle does give you more flexibility in choosing your favorite "drivers car".
So you're breezing along at 150 mph in your beautiful (relatively) new Corvette and all of a sudden your coupe becomes a convertible. Hey! That feature wasn't advertised in the manual. That's because it's not a feature: it's a failed adhesive in the roof, and GM is recalling 22,000 Corvettes to fix it.
While the dramatization above might be a bit, well, dramatic, it's also a real possibility, according to GM, due to weak adhesive. The affected vehicles could allow the removable roof panel to blow off while driving. Models affected include 2005-2007 Corvettes and 2006-2007 Corvette Z06s.
Those of you with long memories for this sort of thing might remember a similar recall in 2006, affecting a total of nearly 31,000 vehicles. This recall is to fix many of those vehicles and a few more built at the plant with the same foam adhesive method.
This time around the fix will include replacement--free of charge to the customer--by GM with a different roof panel and adhesive.

that is unbelieveable....actually not really since its GM. Those guys will cut corners to save literally a penny on every car. I had an old GM engineer as a patient and he told me that they would tell him to use cheaper adhesives on the side mirrors and as a result in the 70-80's GM had issue with side mirrors falling off when the temps would drop or if door would be slammed. I got this info from a GM engineer. He made it clear that they knew the cars had issue but didnt care because they wanted to save the 1 cent per vehicle in production. He said that engineers would be rewarded in cutting the cost of production not for innovation . Like I said with info like this is the Z06 adhesive issue really a surprise. I would still like to drive a Z06, but to own one. Kinda like an EVO I guess
I remember when my friends Explorer had the glass moonroof ripped off by the wind. It flew back and shattered about 40 feet back. Good ol American design and production quality.

I.ve always liked the vette and the c6 is the best vette yet.
Muscle car lovers don't care much for interiors. They want excelleration and noise when they hit the gas.
I think the c6 is stylsh enough to compete with modern styling and would gotten one but I didn't feel comfortable when I tested it. That's always been my problem....plus it is a reliability nightmare. Othrwise, I love them. Pure brute force in a stylish package. Nothing wrong with that!

"Has anyone looked at the track test detailed in the 2/10 issue of Car & Driver?
The CD folks took a bunch of fast cars to Viginia International Raceway, and ran them for time.
The Corvette ZR1 owned every other car, including two lightweight track only specials, a 4X as costly Lambo, and the Audi R8 5.2.
The bargain priced Corvette Grand Sport owned every car except for its big brother, the two track specials, and the Lambo.
So, for less than 60K, you can buy a Grand Sport that will outpace the Audi R8, the Lotus Exige, the BMW M3, both the Cayman S and the 911 Carrera S, the Jag XKR, as well as a host of lesser lights."
