Why the Corvette's days are numbered
Buying a Corvette is considered a hassle, around here at least. Buying an M3, for the same amount of money, is hassle-free. Most dealers have them on their lots, where-as the Chevy dealers often do not have Corvettes on their lots. For the same money, however, I would probably buy a GT-R.

Not only is the M3 more expensive than a base vette ($50k vs. $70k), it's quite a headache (at least here in Philly), to talk with a BMW salesperson. Not saying Chevy is any better though. ** I was referring to the E90 M3 and not a used E46.
In order to land yourself the GT-R, you're gonna need that money + $30k. The GT-R is an amazing car (and a bang-for-your-buck if you compare it to the cars it can compete against performance wise)... but it's still pricey.
But I do agree with the author... sort of. That title is doodoo.
Otherwise I would ward off the Corvette like a sober night of karaoke, and I would do what every other well-educated cultured gentleman with taste and money does. I'd buy myself a Porsche 911. Make it a GT3.
Next step is to go ahead and buy red Ferrari to go together with your gold Rolex just because you heard Ferrari is the best there is when it comes to cars and just because you heard Rolex is the best watch you can get.
That is the most retarded article I've read on here in a while.

What does the author want? $40K 'Vettes so every douchebag that wants to go fast can have one too when they graduate?
The Z06 and the ZR1 are two of the baddest cars on the road and offer, arguably, the best bang for the buck. The number of cars on the road that can handle these two is so small that it is limited to supercars and exotics....and yes, the GT R.
The Corvette is one of the few cars that GM does very well with.

What is he talking about out of hand performance? The goal should be to get the maximum performance out of the car given the budget. Its a Sports Car for crying out loud, not a luxury or economy car.

Great timing on this... stopped by EVS on my road trip yesterday... sat in a new Grand Sport... 436HP w/ Z06 handling, better mileage AND targa top.... for $61K!!!! BMW hassle-free--- BAWHAHAHA!!!! Read my post on International Autos Milwaukee for "hassle free"...
Ehhhhhhhh.... I'd get it and rock most any car at the track and the street... and still beat an M3 in mileage AND price... AND reliability
My guy had 57 Vettes on the lot this time last year and sold them all... he has 11 right now with no plans to order before late November... NOW is the time to buy a Vette!!!
^ Yeah, same thing happened to me, really. We were shopping for a pickup truck at the time and have had a Chevy salesman talk us out of buying a Silverado, and instead told us how much better the Ram, the F-350 and the Toyota Tundra were. It seems like the dealers themselves are more aware about how lacking of a product they're selling even though the consumers have, well, consumer reports to rely on... yet it seems they appears to utterly refuse to believe the inconvenient truth.
I'm not even going to bother replying to the rest because, to be honest, it would be futile to waste my time bashing the Corvette on an almost exclusively American member-base, even though it is rather idiotic to spend $50,000 on a car that hasn't really changed since the 90s. A nicely equipped Corvette is almost $90,000... and that's the price of a GT-R, which will outlive and outperform the Z06 on so many levels.

When I graduated from high school years ago, there was no way I can buy a brand new Corvette, same with todays high school grads. Corvette is still a very nice sports car, but thats just it, its a sports car and nothing else. At least one can try to sit 4 in a M3 and slap on some snow tires and get around in the winter. Cannot do any of that with a Corvette. The Corvette is a good week end car or second car, but as far as second weekend car goes, there are quite a few other car I would rather have.

The Corvette is one of the few cars that GM does very well with.Love my C6. 06 bought in 08 with 9000 miles for about $31k OTD.
no other car could give me the performance for this price
IMO:
beautiful body style
interior is far superior to previous models
maintenance costs are low (had a Boxster and I was always worried about this)
reliability is good, NO ISSUES (see note above, Porsche parts are expensive as HELL)
mileage is decent (not a daily driver anyway)
fun as heck to drive

I don't really understand the comparisons between the Corvette and the M3, unless of course we are talking about them both having two doors, four wheels, and eight cylinders.
One is based off a sedan that is the equivalent of a European Camry and the other is a dedicated, tried and true sports car. I am not knocking the M3 because it's a great car but these are two vehicles that come from different ends of the earth and offer completely different things to the buyer.
Want a civilized coupe with good road manners and a luxurious interior that can seat 4 and still light up the race track? Get an M3.
Want a die hard, true sports car with good ole fashion American V8 power? Get a Vette.
This is an apples to oranges comparison. Case closed.

I think Corvette is one of these cars that you're either totally love it and have a great passion for it, or just don't care for it. Whereas cars like Ferrari's are just impossible not to love.
Seriously, if any of you guys where to hit the lotto big, how many of you would run to the Ferrari dealership, and how many will even remember that Corvette exists?

the article was well written and a lot of fun to read, but wrong or at least highly illogical on many fronts.
writer says base vette at 49k is too expensive, yet he'd rather have a 911 GT3!?
writer says people don't care about how fast, well if that's true then it's only about looks and the vette isn't ugly, although i still don't like the huge 'butt' and i think the vehicle is too long. but the visceral punch and sound of a vette's v8 is incomparably more thrilling than an infiniti g37's great v6.
the vette will survive.

The article about the Vette is just cyberbabble & carries no weight.
