As far as I know that trend was considered modern in those days. Cloth seats also have had a large presence in many European luxury cars from the beginnings to now. My E230 has cloth seats for instance.
Beautiful cars (including the Porsche).
I also like the new SLS because I can see the applied design elements of the original car in it as well as the current Mercedes' styling direction. It's about time I see the car in person. They always look better up close than in the press photos - that's the case with every car.
