SCION debuts 2011 tC (pg.4)
who will buy this over Hachiroku when it comes out? i think making it look bland is not a good decision especially when toyota bro will be much more aggressive than this... it should be other way around.. honestly, i like the current gen more than this.. overall this isn't a bad looking car IMO, but simply put this is very very bland looking car.
maybe hachiroku should've been TC. that would make Scion very special.

I think the new one has a better layout, but the materials and colour contrasting need to be much better.
The really, really need to let 5 axis do the RS versions, and not just splash a stupid colour on there.
This is like what happened with the 2nd generation xB. Instead of using the real 2nd generation Toyota bB, they had their American crew design a big, low-rent box.
The tC is not based on a JDM car, but they really could have made it better-looking considering the original was a fair looker.

Sadly disappointing. Not horrible, but it just doesn't flow naturally and lacks the originality that is supposed to be Scion. You would think that the new tC would have more interesting headlights, for example, than being taken from the last gen Sonata. The rear half is just plain awkward.
There was so much opportunity to make the best looking entry coupe on the market. It's really not that hard.
They failed.

What a absolute and total disappointment. They had sooooooo much time and opportunity to create something modern, sporty, and cutting edge, but they went backward. The front end is plain with an ordinary sedan grille and headlights. The car isn't sporty or aerodynamic enough to have a flat roof. In fact, it just looks like a silly thought. The C-pilar is horrificly too thick and cut wrong, and the rear lights look straight off a Hyundai Accent or an SUV. The overall design and body lacks total fluidity, which was a strong point on the original tC. The interior is also a step back and extremely drab.
It really irks me and saddens me those in charge of these programs are so out of touch with today's trends and where the future of auto design is headed. The only explanation I can think of is Toyota for some reason dished out too few research dollars for this car. Considering how many tC's, Camry's, and Corolla's they've sold in the last five years, there should have been plenty of pennies to assure a solid design.
Sad sad sad. I loved the tC and wanted this one to be sexy.

Apparently they are taking design cues from '98 Ford Rangers.
Maybe they think people will want to replace the head unit, and so have made it easy to do so, rather than integrate everything into it like the many manufacturers now do.
I personally hate aftermarket units. They aren't nearly as ergonomically easy to use as stock units. They always are filled with lots of tiny buttons. And IMO, they are just ugly. I don't don't why so many people yank their brand new stock units in favor of them. Scion's target buyer is expected to be such people though.

The problem is the way the damn thing looks. The Fit's headunit looks like an integral part of the dash where as the tC looks 80-90s.
Toyota used too many rulers and design cues from old domestic cars.
Maybe, if we're lucky, this will be the nail in the coffin for Scion. There are plenty of other interesting cars in that price range now and I cannot see a good reason to buy this hideous thing. The first tC came out as the RSX was being phased out and the only 2-door Civic was a hatchback so it really had the econocoupe market to itself.
Now the Civic coupe is a pretty legit little car, as is the Kia Forte Koup, next gen Focus, and maybe a Cruze.
Toyota really needs to have some products fail before they realize that they design FUGLY cars for the most part. Just my .02.
