At age 17, there's probably no such thing as low-priced insurance for an unmarried male (and few are married at age 17). Some kids get insurance a little cheaper by getting added on their parent's policy (if their parents and the insurance company will allow it) and just reimbursing their parents for the difference. That way, the two-car discount (if applicable) is is also in effect.

Welcome to CL and CAR CHAT, Un0RiGiNaL. I'd consider keeping the Subie, even if you still owe some money on it. As pointed out earlier, depreciation will be a hit if you sell it. Your Subie will probably be more reliable, at least in the short run, than an old SC300 would be, though the first-generation SC was an excellent car mechanically. Your Subie's AWD will give it a lot of flexiblity in bad weather; far more than a RWD SC300 (something to think about if you are going off to school in a bad-weather area). Even with AWD, your Subie will probably get better mileage than the SC300's straight-six (I had that same 3.0L engine in a Lexus IS300 and can tell you it's a gas hog......it gets about the same gas mileage as the SC400's V8). If its a non-turbo Subie (I assume, as a 2.5i, it's not a WRX), it can use cheaper regular gas; the SC300 will need premium. And, last, with the modding parts you put on your Subie, it may be difficult to resell unless you find a buyer with the EXACT same tastes as yours.

Mmm, it boggles my mind how my bro's IS300 is only good for 25 MPG Hwy, if driven gently and that's with an upgraded air filtration system. Prior to that it was 23 MPG. Eeek.

^ I know my es does not have the same engine as the sc or is, but it to is a gas hog. When driven gently in a mix between highway and city, i can get maybe 23, the best i have gotten was 26. Am i missing something here? This past week i checked my mpg after i had driven quite badly to be honest, late braking jck rabbit starts, accelerating towards 4k a lot, and got 20, but i am running regular

You check your tires, air filter? What year is your ES. The 3.0L V6 wasn't all that fuel frugal either.

Yep, checked tires new air filter, infact just had everything just recently changed since we had the 120k and 90k service done at one time last month since we were at 115k. It is a 2001, and i dont think besides engines made just recently, lexus made very frugal engines haha. But from my experience with our x, rx, and es, that lexus, and toyota engines, and very tempermental to the gas you put in. For eample, when i run my car on BJ;S gas its awful, but mobil or sunoco its great, when i got 19 i was runnin on bj's and sam's club gas

from your original 250 a month, that means you would be paying about $50 +/- a month for insurance. Are you still on your parents policy?

No more 200$/month car payments, no more 250$ insurance. Im 17 years old and I pay for everything, car, insurance, gas, phone, and I get help on college money

heres my car, i did all the work myself, the main things ive done are
sti struts
tanabe gf210 springs
rsb/fsb
borla uel headers
exhaust blah blah blah
and all that random exterior crap

When i get my sc300 these are my plans

First start with exterior stuff like wheels and all that, (Some wide *** wheels )
then ill go onto suspension, drop, etc
the car will look good and drive good by this time,
then when i get a full time job and I got money out the *** im gonna turbo it. I got the knowledge (well on subies, idk much about sc300s, can you guys point me to some good threads?). I just need the money and time

Anyways is there a bigger lexus forum than this? (something like nasioc) or is this the biggest forum?

And can you guys point me some threads of reference and give me all the info you got?
Welcome to CL and good luck!

Yes im on my parents policy. Subaru's have the highest insurance in my area. whether its turbo or not

I just cant stand how the cars so ****ing slow, the motor sucks EJ253 ftl. cant turbo it without blowing it up (can only run 8psi if i turbo it or ill blow my internals). engine swap would cost lots of money$$$ including a new tranny.

2jz is so mod friendly.

edit:
Oh and the 250$ a month is after im on my parents policy, after 3.0GPA discount, after state-farm drive safe booklet or some crap like that. and its still expensive

And you think a 220 HP, 3600 Lb. 4AT is going to be fast? Maybe you should aim at an Eclipse, Cobalt SS, Civic Si, or other for a quick vehicle. But your insurance company won't want that in the hands of a 17 year old. Or anything like it.

Wow, that car has been a bit of sinkhole for cash.

As mentioned by others, selling it means recognizing a huge loss (depreciation).

Another option to consider is refinancing the car loan. A longer loan term and lower interest rate could make a big difference in your monthly payments. Hopefully your credit is stellar, or have your A-paper parents cosign on the car loan if necessary.
