Angry Disastrous experience with Slowboy Racing inc

Here's my rant on a personal shopping experience with this apparently reputable company called Slowboy racing.

http://www.slowboyracing.com/

Cliff notes
-Order lowering springs with Slowboy racing
-Receive wrong parts
-Put springs in storage for 4 months, waiting for snow to melt
-Realize they've sent wrong parts 4 months later
-Call the company to exchange
-They refuse stating 30 day policy, knowing they made the mistake

December 2008
Lacking ideas and really running out of time, I decide to get a set of Tein lowering springs for my girlfriend's car. She drives a 03 Lancer ES, and I shop online a bit before finding the best deal, even after shipping, with Slowboy racing.
So I call them and put my order through, and get amazing service during the entire transaction.

A few weeks later (past christmas at this point), I receive those springs and we put them in my basement for a few months, seeing it wouldn't be such a great idea to lower it in the middle of winter.

April 2009

Ahh... finally the snow's melting and summer's in the air.
I send the car to Spark Motoring (from which I get outstanding service btw) to get these babies installed and my gf is ecstatic
I get a phone call a few hours later from the main mech :
-Mech: Bad news man. These springs don't fit.
-Me: What do you mean they don't fit?
- Well they're meant for a Lancer Ralliart, and the ES has a different spring set.
- FFFFUUUUUUUUUUU

So at this point I'm really pissed but figure I can get them swapped out for another set.

I get on the phone, call them right away and explain the situation to them.
I speak to the counter agent which was serving me a few months prior.

-"Sir, this is four months after the fact and you want to return this?"
-"I want them exchanged for the proper parts"
-"We can't sir; we have a 30-day policy to return items"

I explain to him we get a lot of snow here and there's a legitimate reason why I haven't installed these parts. to no avail.

Please note that during our conversation, he admitted that HE made the mistake and sent the wrong part.

Seeing that I'm not getting anywhere with this guy, I escalate the situation to the next level.
I get the owner of the company on the phone.

A few minutes later, this is what I get:
-"Well we're really sorry sir. But we cannot take this part back. You had 30 days to return it to us and didn't. Therefore we cannot exchange this item."

All in all, I'm completely appalled by their lack of integrity, especially given that they've made the mistake in the first place.
Tein has since revised their prices on a global scale, and I suspect this is why they will not exchange this part.
Granted I should've checked right away that they've sent me the correct item, I never thought I'd have trouble exchanging the item.

I remained calm during the entire conversation, and knew it was all too easy for them to deny a claim cross-border due to the fact I had little recourse against them.

so this is my way of fighting back, and spread my one time adventure with Slowboy racing.

Thanks for bearing with me
/rant.

Assuming there is no more to this story then I side completely with you and will make sure to avoid Slowboy Racing in the future... even though I've never heard of them before, this makes 1 bad thing I've heard compared to no good things.

The case you made for why you were past the 30 day return period is 100% logical. You aren't even looking to return them... only exchange them for the part that is on your order sheet. A 30 day return period is generally for you to correct for your mistakes, not their mistakes. It's not a "you better catch our mistake in 30 days or else you're stuck" policy. I can't for the life of me understand what it is that changes at the 30 day mark that changes the fact that they screwed up the order or makes it to where it costs them too much to fix their own mistake. They haven't even been installed yet so it's not like they're past their freshness/expiration date.

edit: Are you going to tell them you're posting this everywhere or just let them find out on their own?

That is bad service. Even though its in their policy, your case is most definitely an exception.

I'm not entirely sure what I will do in this case.
I've posted on two boards I access very often.

I might email them and see if we can come to some sort of agreement.

this is the way I recall the events. I felt insulted they wouldn't even consider some kind of arrangement.
Sad to say, it's a pretty big name out there for Mitsubishi, and they'll tarnish their reputation over a 250$ item.

BBB.com has been a huge help to me in situations like this. does the product you received have a different part number than what you have?

The part I've received was an actual different part, with a different part number.
The clerk did not know there was a difference between the two, and it seemed to me like an honest mistake (we've all made some), but I don't see why I should pay the price for it.

Thanks for referring me to BBB.
Upon a basic search with BBB, they've rated Slowboy racing a D, third lowest rating

http://www.bbb.org/pittsburgh/busine...a-pa-4003028/#

I'm still unsure how far I'm willing to take this; the harm done was 250$ to my pocket and my gf not having a lowered car.

My initial intention was to post this on every board I would lay my hands on... I'm standing at 2 boards as of today.
1- a local board (montrealracing.com)
2- Club Lexus

EDIT: It's hard to take anything up to the BBB if you don't have any proof. Most of the important details were said over the phone.

They screwed you, so now let other people know along with them. File a report at BBB and the fact that you have a different part than you paid for helps just show how ignorant they are. ***** and moan, I would not let this go. Its not like you are asking for a refund you are asking for them to fix their mistake, why should you have to pay for their issues?

I have a case open right now against Seagate for their craptastic hard drive firmware issue and until I filed a claim with BBB Seagate would not even respond to any phone calls of emails.

Sucks to hear about your situation
They should have defenitely swap out those part since it was their mistake
weather or not it was 30 days after or not.

You provided a perfectly good reason why it took so long for you to figure that you had the wrong part, but that also means that they have poor quality control in that they wrong parts going to customers.

Although i never heard of that company thanks for letting everyone know so that no one else will have the same bad experience.

I used to work at Saleen so I know how this works. If you paid by credit card you should be covered, call your card co. & tell them you want to reverse the charge since you did not receive what you ordered. Call Slow Boy & tell them they are lucky you didn't install them yourself & have a wreck & sue them for sending the wrong part. Keep in mind they could be going out of business soon like alot of co. these days so be careful about what you do, try to reason with them, they may be unable to buy any springs until they pay their bill.

They should exchange them, I understand their policy but if THEY admitted their mistake and you just want an exchange, I dont see a problem. Too bad we have companys who only care about money, not the customers :

Policy is another word for guideline not law
